Green, of Clarksville, 'Tenn., is the guest ot Mrs. tA. Dial Gray. Mrs. W. H. Garrett, who has been spending the summer in Greenville with her daughter, Mrs. E. J. Gage, i as returned to the city. Mrs. R. F. Fleming and little son have returned from Lancaster where . they have been visiting for several weeks. Misses Annie Bell and Bess Chil dress have returned home after spend ing some time visiting relatives in Fountain Inn. Miss Francis Davis is among the young Laurens ladies who are attend Ing Brenau College this year. Miss Davis graduated with honors from the high school here the past session. Miss Bessie Moore, who has been with J. B. Wharton & Company in Greenwood, for the past year, has ac cepted a position with Switzer Com pany where she will be in the future. Mrs. M. Z. Kirby, of Columbia, and Miss Martha Briggs, of Rockingham, N. C., returned to their homes Mon day after a pleasant visit to Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Higby. Mr. Nlilton A. Sullivan of Tumbling Shoals accompanied by his friend, Mr. C. H. Flanaghan of Florida, took the train at Laurens for Atlanta on Sat urday, where they are attending the Georgia Technological School. . Mr. .1. 11. Atchison, of the lower sec tion of the county near the Newberry line, was in the city Monday with a wagon load of sheep and another load of beef cattle which lie sold to local butchers at. a fair price. Watch the Red Iron Raneket-good things io lbe had there. Fortieth Anniersary. The Thornwell Orphanage was op ened for the reception of children on the first (lay of October 1875. On the first (lay of Oetober 1913 it will there fore have filled out forty years of work for the orphan~s. All this time it has been under the direction of Rev. Dr. Jacobs, its original promoter. It has grown from a fifty cent pie0ce and eight children to a family u'i three hundred and forty, occupying one hundred and twenty-five acres in the city of Clinton. Clinton itself has grown in proportion. At their annual meeting on June last, the Synodical Board of Trustees decided that notice ought to be taken of this event. They therefore elected Gov. Martin F. An sel to address the people of Clinton on that occasion. It is hoped that the whole county will send a representa tion, The young people1 themselves will take part in it.
