Progress is a law which must be
respected and'followed. It concerns
not only the character but the very
life of a town or community.
Unless there is progress in the
professions, the industires and busi
ness of a town or city it must retro-.
grade, there is no middle position, for
when growth ceases decay begins.
Therefore it is necessary either to go
forward or turn to the rear. Lau
rens is fighting steadily for the suc
cess which Is now crownini her ef
forts, and the growth of the city for
the past few years has been more
marked than at any period In its pre
vious history, cetrainly it has shown
no signs of decay. Laurens has Ind
is looking forward and not backward,
toward the goal of still greater
achievements in the future. The old
days of Laurens have passed away,
the days when she revelled in the
indolent Southern sunshine and
fought her glorious battles over again,
a younger generation has conic into
the arena and is now fighting for su
pr:macy in the fleld of trade and
commerce. The battle has none of
the horrifying spectacles of the 6O's
but is now for homes, education an(
employment for all. The men of Lau
rens are of a race now who buil(
