Williamston, Mass., May 1.-Wood row Wilson laid aside official cares here today and becaipe merely the grandfather of Frances Sayre, the small son of his daughter, Jemie and of Francis B. Sayre. The president came to Williamston, despite press ing public business, to take part in planting a "baby" tree for his grand sou\, late this. evening and to act as one of his godfathers at the christen ing ceremony tomorrow. Practically the entire college pop ulation of Willianiston wis at the sta tion to welcome tile president who was accom pan ied by his daughter, Miss Margaret Wilson, liks- cousin, Miss Helen Woodrow Bones, and his naval aide, Dr. Cary T. Grayson. Shortly afterward' the entire family party, with President Garfield, of Wil liams college and Mrs. Garfleld, gath ered oil tile lawn of tile Spiyro hon\e and planted a walnut tree present el to baby Sayre by Mr. Garfield. The - resident joined in the laughter calls ed when tile Child firmly grasped tile tree with both hands and tried to take it from his father. . As soon as the tree was placed, the President turned a spadeful of earth around its roots. The baby girgled delightedly and Mr. Wilson patted him on the chcek. FARMERS ORGANIZE SECRET SOCIETY 3Mystery nurrounds Organization Said to he in Process of Formniion, Columbia, May I.-That a new or ganizatlon of farmers is gainingdhead way in certain places In South Caro lina has beeii known for some time but just how far the organization ex ten11d is 1101 knuIown. Itep)o't s in (o lumbia are to the effect that the new fa-rimers organization is secret and oath-bound and iudleat ions are that it partakes of a political significance. Just what its purposes are it Is im possible to state with accuracy but enough is known to justify the state ment that polities is playing sonie part in the new -movement. Investigations by The News corres pondent of this new movement have been fruitless as far as getting hold of any tangible information as to who or , what Is behind thim new secret farmers movement but the in vemdtigations have not been entirely without results. It is knowU for a certainty that such a movement ex ist s and it appears to have been crad dled inl the counties of Lee amid Ker shaw. In fact the new movement aya cilim to several hundred '.nem hers, 111)0 to belleve on report, .i Ihese two counties. It is said to have apieared at a few places in Maarl horo couity but just how much fur ther it has spread has not been ap pa rent. It seems to be still in its in cipient state andl has not yet been enabled to wvalk without assistance. 'Political abser'ver's hav'e had their eyes on thIs new movement of farm eras for some weeks and have been qiuietly digging under' the surface to try a'nd find out the underlying causes and those who ar'e behind it. It is not entirely a tihing of myster'y to fig ure out who might be connected with the movement. In fact there are those who guess that some men wvho have an eye for' poitical priefermflent ar'e aware of the organization but none can- be found( who will adlmit that they know anything about it. But there are some in touch with pilolitical con ditions who wvould not mind1( riskinig a guess. It is said on excellent authority that the new farmers movement is nienac lng the very existence of the State IFarmners Union. ft is saidl that one thing is the low dumes. Thus it is said that the inItiation fee in this secret farmers organization in only 10 cents and the dues only 20 cents per year for each memuber'. This in itself is something wvhich the Farmers Union is said to be Impossible to comphete with any many are wonder'ing how the new organization is goIng to exist on such dues but that is something which has not come to the surface. WVhile nothing has been said publicly it Is known that the Farmers Unioni officials have becen viewing this new organization with concern mixed with alarm.
