ON PENSION MATTERS. * Editor Laurens Advertiser: ' I write to inform the public what has been done by the county pension Loard in conforming to the concor rent resolution of the state legislature at he 1914 session, requiring the coun ty pension board of the various coun ties of this state to compile and Ple with the comptroller general a bona fide list of all Confederate soldiers and widows now living in their respective counties, irrespective of whether or not they are receiving pensions. On November 17th, a meeting was held at Laurens court house, at which time we enrolled one hundred and ninety-five names, of which sixty-six are widows of Confederate veterans, state troops (reserves) thirty-t wo; widows of state troop, two; veterans ninty-five. As we already had a list of those now drawing pensions filed in the comptroller general's office number ing 270 we did not include that in the above list. This makes a total of four hundred and sixty-seven now living in this county. Our list was sent to Columbia several days ago. I recently attended a special meet ing of the delegates appointed from his congressional district by Gen. 13. 11. Teague, under resolution of the Confederate Veterans association, of the state which was held in Columbia and found a majority of the delega tion in favor of pension for service, for all Confederate veterans and wid ows. This sentiment is stronger in the state now than ever before. I am drawing a bill o be presented to the next legislature, which will practically be a new act. L.f this be comes law, I am quite sure it will be an improvement over the present law and will give more satisfaction and justice to all. W. P. Coker, Chairman, County Pension Board. Fountain Inn, S. Making over store fronts is an in. dustry which has found so many pa trons in New York that a number of firms have found it profitable to set aside all other forms of building and devote themselves wholly to helping New York merchants improve the ap. pearance of their establishments by putting a new face on the matter. All classes of merchants, from the small dealer in the suburb to the great dry goods firms, indulge in the luxury of a now kind of front to their business homes every once in so often. The sense of humor is like individ uality; it is likely to be disagreeable to others if made too prominent. It in a dangerous gift, so dangerous that the person who lacks it may perhaps be congratulated. They do not know what they miss, but they are likely to be the solid, sensible citizens, the men of means, and the directors of public affairs. Give the Credit Now. We ought daily or weekly to dedi cate a little time to the reckoning up of the virtues of our belonging-wife, children, friends-contemplating them then in a beautiful collection. And we should do so now, that we may not pardon and love in vain'and too late, after the beloved -ne has been taken away from us to i. better world.-Jean Paul Richter. Easiest Way.
