We attended the campaigni meeting last Wednesday, and a. very pleasant time; met up with old friends from all over the state which added much to our pleasure for such an occasion, as you never cal hear the men speak that igu go to hear. I am a country mnan, puire and simple, but I hate to see a countryman make a jackass out of himself-that goes to prove that the time is ripe for compulsory education. Some men say we have not got. the room right now for all the children to go to school, but you let them go and crowd up like they did 'before and af ter the war, and we could see that it would be an easy matter. Your cor respondent went to a school just af ter the war, in a very small house. in the winter we could crowd il and keep warm, as we had but one small fire place t get to. In the summer, the advaiincd ones would do most of their studying olit under the silade trees. the house being too small to accommodate then in the hot weather, You know that we had soie great men who were educated at these old field school houses before the war; viz.. men like Col.
