Hart, of the University of South Carolina spent Sunday in the city with relatives. ~rs.- Arthur Taylor and children are visiting Mrs. Taylor's father, Mr. W. E. Medlock, near Fountain Inn. Mr. and Mrs. Hart Richey, of Flor ence, are expected in the city Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Richey, Sr. Messrs. Geo. S. McCravy and A. R. Theme returned last week from a bus iness . and sight-seeing trip to New Orleans. 'Prof. D. A. Dupre, of Wofford col lege, spent the week-end in the city as the guest of MAr. and Mrs. Carlos R. Moseley. Mr. Grover Richey, who has been at home sick for several weeks, con tinues indisposed but is on the road to recovery. Mr. Arthur Lee left yesterday for Greenwood to attend the Bailey Jamison wedding which is to take place tomorrow evening. Messrs. Roland and Edwin Moseley, of Wofford college, spent the week end In the city with their 'parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. I). Moseloy. Mrs. C. W. Tune was among those who attended grand opera in Atlanta last week. She remained over for sev eral days to visit relatives. Miss Mary Todd left Monday for Oolumbia to spehd several days and from there she will go to Jackson ville, Fla., to visit friends for sonic time. Mr. F. W. Carlisle, Jr., sales man ager of the Liggett & Myers Tobacco 00., spent several days of last week in the city as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. L. 11. Clardy. Mr. and Mirs. Charles Rounds have returned to Clinton after a wedding tour to Atlanta and other points. Mrs. Rounds came to Laurens yesterday to visit her father and other relatives. Mirs. W. R. Richey, Jr., and little Miss Sarah Richey will join Capt. W. R. Richey in Washington, D. C., the latter part of this week. Capt. Richey received orders to report at the war department for special duty last week and will likely remain there for sev eral weeks yet. Mr. La. E. Norr'yee, of Andersen, spent last week in the city en busi ness. Mr. Norryce was for seine time secretary of the Anderson chamber of commerce and is an enthusiastic "My Town" booster. Byrd left this afternoon- for the soldiers reun ion in Jacksonville. Little Miss Elizabeth Martin gave a dinner Saturday of last week, for the Ora teachers and several of her little friends. Mrs. D. M. McClintock recently en tertained Misses Ilickson and McFad den at tea. Mrs. I. N. Kennedy is visiting her mother, Mrs. Carlisle, in Newberry. The Friday afternoon club met at the home of the president, Mrs. W. M. Bryson. Mrs. D. M. McClintock skillfully rendered a selection of music. The origin and growth of Mothers Day were interestingly dis cussed in a paper read by Mrs. J. L. McClintock. The pleasure of the af ternoon was further enhanced by music on the player piano of the host ess. The program committee, Miss Lizzie Craig, chairman, annotnced an interesting program for the next meet ing. The subject is to be. "American Folk Lore". 'lie time of this meet ing is the last Friday in May at 4:30 P.M. Rev. I. N. Kennedy expects to leave Wednesday. lie will be away two weeks, part of the' time in Virginia. conducting services for Rev. L. I. Echols. Misses Ruby Iiclkson and Anmelia McFadden left Thursday for their homes in and near Rock Hill. These young ladies have been in our midst only one session but long enough to win many warm friends who reg.et their departure and the wisdom of the school board in their selection has been forcibly proven. The school has had a larger enrollment than for many years and to the untiring zeal and en thusiasm of Miss IHickson is due the aid received from the state in the. sum of $200 and the creditable showing the school made at the county fair. Miss Margaret Blakely is expected home today from her school in Lee county. Miss Blakely has been re elected and will probably return for another session. Miss Alice McClintock will arrive Saturday from Tirzah to spend the va cation months with her parents. Mr. V. E. McClintock has returned from North Carolina where he has been buying mules for his farm. The farmers are -all about through planting, waiting for the seed to come up. -- The school here has closed a very successful term. Mr. Rhoad was elect ed principal for another term and Miss Ntolia Lanford was elected as pri mary teacher. Mrs. Hunter will not teach next term or else she would have been elected. The play Monday night was fine. It showed the pupils had been well trained. The school enjoyed a picnic at Yar borough's Mill Tuesday. Mr. Rhoad will leave for his home in Bamberg Thursday. Mrs. H. M. Johnson is visiting her daughter, Mrs. James Byers, in len dersonville. Misa Mary .Jackson and Miss Evv Pool spent Monday night with Miss Robin Patterson. Miss Edith Edwards and sister are visiting Miss Othella Johnson. Mr. Richard Moore is visiting his parents here. Mlessrs O. L. Lanford, J. W. Lan ford, W. I. Drumimond and L. M. Cannon were in Laurens at the con vention Monday. Mr. C. D. 'Cox is one of the jurors this week. Miss Annie Wolff visited Miss Mol lie Moore recently. M1r. and Mrs. J. Lee Langston and wife spent Sunday with Mrs. H. A. Mills. Mr. Talmage Patterson and sister, Miss Hell Patterson visited on the Ridge Sunday. Mr. .iimmie Patterson has put a phone in his residence, which is a great convenience (for me). Mr. 13. W. Johnson and family and ir. Vance Johnson, were here Sun day in his new touring car. Mr. Sam Monday was in Lanford Sunday. -Mr. Frances Craig is right sick at his home here. The Misses Garrett spent Sunday and Sunday night with their sister here, Mrs. Joe Williams. Rev. The Shiloh school gave a picnic at the close of their school and a very large crowd from Barksdale attended and report a nice time. Mr. and irs. W. H1. Baldwin were the guests of Mr. Pinckney Baldwin of Rabun Sunday. Mr. Baldwin has been very sick for quite awvhile. Mr. Brooks IBishop of Laureuns, was the guest of his children at Mr. J. Y. Henderson's Saturday night and Sun day. Mrs. 1E. 3. Henderson, of Barksdale, has been very sick for quite awhile, hut is much better at tils writing. Miss Annie Baldwin was tihe guest of Miss Annie Bishop Sunday. Mr. Jerome Blabb, of Owings, was visiting Mr. J. Y. Henderson Sunday. Also his son, Mr.. W. TH. Henderson and Mr. Tonm Hellams of Shiloh. The teacher of Fairview school had to leave two wveeks before the close of school on account of her health and( Miss Daisy Blaldwin of Barksdale has gone to finish the school wvhich will close next Friday, the 8th.
