The holidays .passed very quietly in
this community. If there was any
drinking it was not done very pub
licly.
Miss Ora Power entertained sever
al -of her friends Tuesday at a very
enjoyable dinner. Misses Alle and
Myra Wofford, Robbie Hudgens, and
Mr. T. S. Langston and little Maude
Wofford were her guests for the day.
One -the same day Miss Kate Wofford
and Mr. Claude Finley were the
guests of the family of Mr. Watkins.
On New Years Day Mr. and Mrs. J.
D. Culbertson entertained at quite an
enjoyable dinner. It was a good old
fashioned turkey dinner, with all
the accompanying delicacies that go
with that stately bird, ending with
a desert equally as enjoyable, pound
cake, the culmination of culinary art,
but when that is planked by a slice
of 'lemon and cocoanut cake and a
glass of boiled custard, what more can
one ask. Those who enjoyed the day and
the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. T. S.
ILangsion, sMyrs. AlM. T. Alllison, Mir.
and Mrs. Eclistia Watkins and family.
Mrs. Ben Culbertson and children,
Misses Besaie Watkins, Jessie Thomp
son, Susie Langston and -Hettie Cun
Ingham, Azile Wofford, Messrs Doug
lass Bryson, Claude Finley 'and John
W. Wofford, Little Miss Meta Culbert
son had as her guests for the day
Mary Iudgens of Laurens and An
nette Culbertson. Mr. \ 'Langston
brought his fiddle along and enlivened
the occasion with "The Heights of Al
abama" and numerous others, equal
ly as lively. He was accompanied
on the piano by Misses Langston and
Cuninghan. The only comment 'by
the invited guests so 'far is the uni
versal wish "that we be a fortunate
one on next New Years' bay."
The Sunbeams at New Prospect
seen to have taken on new life with
the new year. They met yesterday af

Editor The Advertiser:
If any of my. readers have not done
so, I advise that they get a last copy
of The Progressive F"arner and read
Editor Poe on Negro Segregation. He
Is on the only sane line that I have
so far seen In the negro problem.
Some of you who love your country
ride out from Laurens by either main
road and see and note the houses that
once were the homes of prosperous
farmers now inhabitated by negro
tenants. From Boyd's cross roads to
Laurens limits proper, we find only
four white families. The rest are ne
groes. The situation will son become
intolerable elnd then what? Echo an
