Mr. and Mrs. B. M. McDowell and family and .1. M. Moore and family all visited at the home of G. B. Moore Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jeptha Bnrnott from Greenville visited at the home of W. W. Hunter last week. Mr. George Davis from Greenville Is now visiting his sister, Mrs. Letha Burns at this place. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Golightly visit ed at the home of Mr. M. A. Garrett Sunday. TillS COUNTY GETS CONVICTS. Seven From State Ten are Sent Here On Request of Supervisor Humbert. Supervisor H. B. Humbert returned last Thrusduy from Columbia with seven convicts from the ?t?te peniten tiary. These convicts were turned ov er to this county at the request of the supervisor, who had very prompt ly taken advantage of the order issued same time ago allowing the counties to work the state convicts. Laurens county made a request for ten men hut thero were only seven available, as the men must all he from the coun ty to which they are taken. Of the seven sent to this county three are life-termers?Willie Cray, Wash Young and Vandolph lyoak. Three have twen ty year sentences?Oco. Davis, John Vance and Job-. Fullor. The other Is In for live years. These men have al ready been sent to the various gangs working on the roads over the county. OPENING OF NEW THEATRE. Moving Picture Show Opens In the Old Post Office Building next to Phi I pot's Store. Saturday night witnessed the open ing of the Bijou Theatre, a new mov ing picture bouse .-showing in the building formerly occupied by the post oiilco. Although complete ar rangement had not been made for music, and lights, the Bijou had a good line of reels to show us patrons. The show opens daily at 2 o'clock, P. M., and continues until after ten o'clock. The leading feature reel this er 1 noon and tonight will be a'th ing Indian scene, "Alone in the Jungle". This is a two reel picture and Is said to be a line one. Another and pret tier reel will bo one entitled "Jack's Chrysanthemums". In the palmy days of Its existence the Cafe Anglais In Paris was greatly affected by wealthy Americans. In this resort the charges soared sky high, and it was considered bad form to ask the price of anything on the menu. You simply ordered what struck you I fancy and were expected to pay smil Ingly when the bill was presented. Julius Chambers was Invited by a friend to dine there once, and in the Brooklyn Eagle he tells of bis experi ence; "Being asked to order the dinner for my friend, I made It as simple as pos sible. A bisque soup, salmon with young potatoes, one small capon with fine herbs, asparagus, tarts, Camem bert cheese and coffee. My friend did not drink wine, and I ordered for my self a bottle of 'the red wine of the house.' "Everything was excellent, and 1 fully expected the bill to be 80 to 100 francs ($20). Imagine my horror, there fore, when the bill was 1500 francs. Sixty dollars! I was Indignant, al though my host merely laughed. I sent for the mnitre d'hotol and demanded an itemized bill. lie wns very indig nant; said such a request was unheard of. After much delay the 'addition' ap peared. 1 only remember that it added up all right and that the charge for the chicken was $20 and $1 for the wine (worth about 00 cents).
