Riddle hsa returned from a pleasant visit to her son and daugh ter In Greenville. Miss Eleanor West, of Greenville, visited friends in the city the latter part of last week. Mr. Fred Coleman, of Cross Hill, spent several days in the city last week visiting friends. Mr. and Mrs. G. Dudley Young, of Gaffncy, spent several days in the city last week with his mother. Miss Anna Rhodes, from near Gray Court, visited her cousin, .Miss Mittie Gwing?, in Laurens last week. r Miss Elease Glenn, of Ooldville, spent the week-end with her aunt, Mrs. J. E. Glenn and visited the fair. Miss Annie Gilkerson returned home Friday after a pleasant visit of sever al days with friends in Chester. Miss Laura Lee Lumpkin, of Spar tanburg, spent the week-end in the City as the guest of Miss Wlllou Boyd. Mrs. M. L. INash, of Landrum, re turned to her home Sunday after visit ing friends In the city for several days Mrs. Gertrude Cantrell and little son, Epps, of Spartanburg, has been visiting Mrs. M. A. Ray for the past few days. Miss Allene Franks left a few days ago for 'Clinton where she will teach in the primary department of the grad ed school. Mrs. Etta Dorroh, of (Lay Court, has been spending a few days with Mrs. W. T. Dorroh and other relatives In the city. Mrs. W. R. Minter, of Lincolnton. N. C. is spending some time in Laurons as the guest of Mrs. X. It. Dial and Mr. E. P. Minter. Mr. T. H. Nelson, of Etowah, Tenn., spent several days in the county last week on business and came to Lau rens for a short visit. Miss Helen Sullivan, who is attend ing Converse college, spent the week r ond here with her parents,. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Sullivan. % Mrs. Watson, principal of the high school at the Thornwell Orphanage, was in the city Saturday and paid the Advertiser a pleasant call. Miss Willie Dorroh, accompanied by Miss Ruth Gilliland, of Fountain Inn. spent the week-end here with her mother. Mrs. W. T. Dorroh. Capt. B. L. Henderson, of the Mt. Gallagher section, took advantage of the county fair Friday to visit Iiis rel atives in this city for several days. Miss Sexton, after spending sev eral days in the city last week with her parents, returned to her studies at Winthrop college Sunday. Mrs. .lohn M. Teaguo, who, with Mr. Teaguo moved to Newborry sever al weeks ago, spent the latter part of last week in the city attending the fair. , Mr. H. D. Mnhnffoy, of the Eden COtartmunity, spent several days in the city last week with his son. Mr. Gus Mahaffoy, and visited the county fair Friday. Mr. and Mrs. James R. Davis re turned from their wodding trip Wed nesday and are now at home to their | frionds at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. Douglas Gray. Congressman Jos. T. Johnson spent a part of last week and the first of | j^this week in the city, being among the visitors to the county fair, with which he expressed himself as being im mensely pleased. The marriage of Miss Louise John son and Mi. Marvin A. Connelly, which took place quietly Wednesday evening at the home of the bride on . I South Limestone street is of cordial ? interest throughout the State. The relatives of the young couple and a few intimate friends were the only ones present and the Rev. T. E. I Marrls of the Buford Street Metho dist church performed the ring cere aiony. There were no attendants. The bride wore a handsome traveling suit I of dark brown and a small hat of the same shade. Dr. and Mrs. Connelly left on an evening train for New York where they will be for the next two weeks, going to Woodruff) the groom's home, to reside on their return. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 11. M. Johnson and a sister of I Mrs. R. C. Garland. Mrs. Connelly as Miss Johnson was one of the most pop I Ular young women In the city. She has a charming manner that has made her many friends. Dr. Connelly is a prominent young dentist of ^Voodruff. ooo Davenport-Brown. Ware Shoals, Oct. 18.?A very pret ty home wedding took place on Sun day evening, Oct. 12, when Miss Rigah L., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Davenport was married to Mr. John R. Brown. The wedding took place in the parlor at three o'clock, the room being nicely decorated with ever greens and flowers. To the strains of the wedding march played on the or gan by Miss Margaret Dallas, the bri dal party entered and took their plac es by the altar. The bride was real pretty, dressed In white and was sup-j ported by her sister. Mrs. P. Guest' while the groom was accompanied by Mr. Guest. The ceremony that made the happy couple man and wife was performed by Rev. J. M. Dallas. Af ter the nuptial knot had been tied the young people received the hearty congratulations of their host of friends present. The bride received many handsome ami useful presents. On Monday the wedding dinner was serv ed to a large number of guests, and was a very sumptuous and happy re past. The bride's cake was cut and handed to each friend present. The happy young people left on the ev ening train for their future home in Pelzer where they carry the h?>st wish es of all our people. ooo CartledgC'Huff. A wedding ceremony of unusual In forest was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Huff in this city last Wednesday at noon, when their daughter, Miss Gladys Huff, be came the wife of Mr. 11. E. Cartlodgo, also of Laurons. The ceremony w;>s performed in the parlor of the Huff home, which had been beautifully dec orated and arranged for the occasion. Rev. L. P. McGoo, the pastor of the bride, performed the ceremony, using the impressive ring service. The cere mony was begun When the wedding march was sounded by Mrs. Ernest Huff, of Greenville. Miss Annie Huff, sister of the bride, entered with Mr. J. 11. Timmorinan and they were fol lowed by Miss Louise 'Cartlodgo, sis tor of the groom, with Mr. Phil Huff, j The groom entered witli his best man. Mr. Arthur Lee, and took his place in front of the minister. The bride, very attractively gowned, entered on tlie arm of her brother. Mr. Ernest Huff, and joining the groOai, took with him the few vows that bound them as one. After the benediction had been pronounced upon them, the relatives and friends of the young couple whoj wore pros* t crowded around them and showered them with congratula tions and best wishes. After the few minutes allowed for; congratulations, the guests were in vited into the dining room where an elegant course dinner was served. At two o'clock Mr. and Mrs. Cartlodgo took the train for Clinton, from whence they began their wedding trip to Atlanta. During the af ternoon the guests enjoyed several rounds of auction bridge, the prize for the highest score being won by Mrs. George Dalle.
