Oct. 2.?-Expecting to sell at least 1,000,000 Red cross seals in this State for Christmas, the South Carolina branch of the National Ked Cross association for t!i?; preven tion of tuberculosis has been organiz ed. This branch, which has been duly commissioned, will have entire charge of the sale of stamps in this State. It Is planned that in every town of 200 or more population the associa tion w?l have an agent. The Impor tance of the work and the great good thnt Is being done will be emphasized and bho now organization in South Ca rolina expects to have a lame sale this Christ mas. Officers have boon elected as fol lows: Arch H. Calvert, Spartanburg, president; Dr. .lohn C Dawsoil, Char leston, vice chairman; Miss Ixmly Bband, 'Columbia, vice chairman, and Dr. Reed Smith, Columbia, executive secretary and treasurer. Minis, shot himself through the heart with a pistol ball some time yesterday afternoon, the; body being found last night. When discovered the body was sitting up in a chair in bis room In front of the mirror, the pistol was ly ing on the floor by the chair with an empty cartridge In one cylinder. The doors had been looked and windows closed to the room, showing the evi dent Intent of the small boy to end Ills own life. Mrs. Morris, who Is the widow of the late .loses T, Morris, formerly one of the guards at the State farm at llagood, had been out during the af ternoon and did not know when the boy came In the house, That night she began to k'-i worried that he did not come In but supposed that ho was still at work Up-town. She went to his room and found the door closed, hut although she thought this strange she* did not investigate further. Short ly before midnight another brother came In and was told thai his younger brother had not returned from work. As it was long after his work hours and it was found that he had left there in the afternoon and had not re turned, entrance was m ado-to lb 0 room through the window and the body was discovered. N'o roason Is known why the boy should have wished to end his life, and the tragedy came as a groal shock to the members oT his family.
