Klbler and tho family of Mr. Percy Flnloy were the guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. t. s. Langston. Mesdamcs Margaret Allison and Mol lie TongUO have been enjoying a visit to relatives near Milton. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Cunningham were callers in our midst recently. The writer Is under obligations to good friends at Cold Point to Mr. It. II. Pasley for a mess of beans, to Miss Loitia Madden for some very fine SCUp-l pornongs. Mr. .1. I). Culbcrt80n was one of those who enjoyed the recent excur sion to Jacksonville, Fla. Tho many friends of Miss Frankle Culbertson will be glad to know she was able to return to her homo from tho hospital recently and at last report was getting on nicely. Caught a Had Cold. Mountvllle, Sept. 8.?The remains of little Lindsay Karle, the nine year old son of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Yates, of Urevard, N. C, were brought here Sat urday night, and the burial took place Sunday morning at eleven o'clock at the Presbyterian cemetery, conducted by Rev. J. A. Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Nates formerly lived here, where a large circle of relatives and friends sympathize with them In this sore affliction. Mr. J. II. Motes of this place ? as called to Urevard last Friday on account of the serious illness ?r lit tle F?rb-, and reached there only an hour before he passed away. He, with Mr. M. 10. Lindsay, a brother of Mrs. YatCS, accompanied the bereaved par ents on their sad mission. The little grave was left a mound of (lowers. The Mountville high school opened Iis fall session this morning with un usually full attendiuncc. Principal, R, A. Fuller and Miss Marie Stokes of Hie high school grades, were in their places again. Tlx; new teachers for this year are; Miss Mary Martin of Qrocnwood, in the intermediate grades, and Miss Emma Hipp, of Clinton, in the primary department. Miss Martin served our school in this capacity quite acceptably for three years, previous to last year. With the large enrollment that we will have, the prospects are bright for another successful school year. Mr. Boyd 'Chandler, of Belfast, has moved his family to town and Is occu pying rooms in Mrs. May Chick's house. Mr. Chandler comes to town to put his children in school here. Mr. Buena Crisp, who holds a posi tion as telegraph operator at Leesburg, Fla., recently paid a visit to his home folks here. Miss Marguerite Fuller spent the month of August In Winnsboro, visit ing her aunt, Mrs. Huchannan. Mr. K. A. Adams enjoys the distinc tion of having sold the first balo of new cotton on this market. The three ginneries at this place have all been put In good shape and are now prepared to accommodate the public promptly. Miss Zelle Crisp has returned home after a two weeks' visit to friends la Anderson. Miss Ruth Stokes left Saturday for Kock Hill, where she will be engaged in teaching this season. ? I.ANFORD NEWS. ? * ? Lanford, Sept. 8.?The school op ened hero Monday morning with full attendance. Mr. Clifton Rhoads is principal, Misses Marie Patterson and Hlolla Lanford arc the assistant teach ers. Mr. Will Little was painfully, though not sc'iousi/ cut while at work at h'.j saw mill las', wc?k. He is Improving nicely. Mrs. L. M. Cannon is spending tuis week in Spartanburg with her (laugh ter, Mrs. B. F. Homer. Mrs. H. M. Johnson is on an ex tended visit to Newton, N. C. Mis. Willie Henderson Is spending some time with her parents here, Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Drummond. Quite a number from here went on the excursion to Johnson City. Among them were ("apt. W. H. Drummond, with Iiis two sons, Jimmlo and Sam* mlo, Mr. .1. II. Harmon, Charlie and Clovlo Thomas ami Mr. Martin. Mr. M. Fleming attended the meet ing of the old soldiers Saturday at Hau re us. Mr. .lohn Godfrey was In Laurens Friday on business. Mr. Kennte Shell and sister. Mis;. Emma, spent Sunday with Mrs. Lena Moore. Mr. 10. II. Moore Is In Greenville on business. Mr. T. K. Wolff was a business visit or to Laurens Monday. Mrs. Minnie Willis is spending a few days in Spartanburg this week. Misses Hyde Wofford and Rubie Ed wards of Switzer, visited Miss Min nie Lanford last week. Mrs. Minnie Willis gave a picnic to her Sunday school class Friday on the Island at Enoree. All report a nice time. Mrs. Clarence Rramlett visited at W. II. l)ruininond's last week. Mr. A. P. Little and family spent Sunday at Pleasant Mound with Mr. W. P. Little. The commuinty was saddened to hear of the death of Mrs. Owlngs which oc curred at Spartanburg. Her remains were brought to Warrior Creek church lor burial Monday. Miss Kittle D. Putman who was opeated on for an attack of appendici tis, is doing nicely. She is at the Steadly hospital in Spartanburg. Miss Othella Johnson is suffering with a sprained ankle. Miss Annie Lou Little was called to the bed?ide of her brother. 8he has been spending the summer in Rich mond and Spartanburg, visiting friends and relatives. Miss Ethel Culbertson went to Lau rens Monday, where sho will attend school this session. Mr. J. H. Culbertson Is attending court tills week, at Laurons. Mr. George 'Cooper spent Sunday with Mr. Maul Washington. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Cooper were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. O'dell Sunday. Master Manning Molt left Saturday for Piedmont where he will be In school this term. Our farmers have begun to pick cot I ton. Tlie cotton crop here seems to be very good. Mr. E. L.
