Mr. Kniest Hurts and family, who have been living here for the past few months, have moved near Kkoni, their former home. Mrs. Omega Tlmmcrmnn and little daughter, alter a stay of several weeks with her parents, have returned to her home in Augusta. MISS Louise Dean and brother .lames have been visiting rclntivos in Green ville. Lisbon, Sept. 1.?The farmers are very busy now pulling fodder while the sun shines. The old cotton has commenced to open right fast, aixl the farmers will soon be in the midst of every day work, picking cotton, sowing oats, getting ready to do their deep plowing this fall. Crops are needing rain these days. The cool nights and the hot sun make a telling effect In the young cotton. If we have an early fall the cotton will cer tainly be short in places, especially the young cotton. Sonn; people think now that June is the month to plant cotton but, you mind what we predict, there is going to be tin early fall and then you will sec what the young cotton will do. These last rains have made a wonderful improvement on the young corn. Mr. Frank Sprouse has rented the Smith place. Mrs. Smith will go to Amorlcus, Oa? fh live with her daugh ter, Mrs. Lina Mowers. We hate to see this good woman leave her home She is a good woman and a good neighbor and we all will miss her so much. Old Aunt Mary, wife or Uncle Ike McDowell, colored, died at her daugh ter's, on Mr. Fur man Brown's place last Monday night. A few hours be fore she died She told her husband that she wanted to get up, and for all the children to come into her room where she wanted to prav with them her last time. She prayed ami begged them to live a better lite that they might meet her in heaven. Aunt Mary belonged to two societies. They nave her a decent burial and the society will pay her husband and children $150.00 by the first of December. Un cle Ike and Aunt Mary lived with J. T. A. Ballew, They have a good crop and owe hut very little. Uncle Ike be longed to Mr. A. R. Holmes' mother and a better woman never lived on this earth than six. He always looked for ward to the present his young master. Mr. Joe Holmes, sent him every Christmas. Messrs. Blume and Henry Milam are visiting their brother, Hobt. Milam and family in Qrecnvlllo this week. The Hon. II. II. Pasle.V, of Cold Point is staying with his sisters while the young men are taking a few days rest and pleasure. Mrs. .1. T. A. Hallow has returned from Spart'anbtirg with her niece and nephews, Blla, J. T. Carroll. Lawrence Schayer Tenguo, of Spnrtnnburg and Kloiso Dunlnp, of Laurens. to spend a while. Mr. and Mrs. Norwood Martin's lit tle child is very sick. We hope that the little fellow will soon ho up again. Mr. Simpson Malone is very feeble. This old war horse, we ire sorry to say. is not doing doing so well for the last few months, yet the poor old fellow has a garden, potatoes and melon patch, also a few chickens, thai he can dispose of to make a liv ing. Mr. A. .1. Smith, deceased, gave him a house and these patches free of rent this year. He says "I don't know what I will do since the death of my old friend, Mr. A. J. Smith." On., AUfe. 27.?The bul let riddled body of Virgil Swanson. a negro, was found hanging from a limb in a lonely spot near here late yester day, the local coroner lea med today. A verdict of death at the hands of un known parties was the result of the coroner's investigation. It was said the body evidently had been hanging from the tree several hours before be ing discovered. The lynching is sup posed to have been a sequel to the killing of L. C, Marchmon, a farmer, by Walter Brewster, a negro, about a week ago. Brewster wan captured at '^aGrangc, Ga? and Jailed. It Is un derstood Swanson was charged with having aided Brewster to hid e from the officers. Held l a in ib Reunion. On Aug. 2Yth a reunion of the Held family wan held at the home of Mr. J. Hhett Held in honor of Mrs. Mary I. Held, who is on a.visit to Laurens. The members of the family gathered on the porches and luwa at an early hour. The older members of the fami ly spent the morning in pleasant con versation ami exchanging experiences of the past years while the children en joyed auto rides over the city. At one o'clock, all were summoned to the shady lawn where a bountiful dineer was enjoyed by all present. Those that enjoyed the day were the following: Mrs. Lawrence Lanford and family of Ulenn Springs, Mrs. H. . Bailey of Clinton, Mr. W. L. Held and family of Barksdale, Mr. S. C.
