Mr. Garvcy Ridgeway of Honea Path was a visitor here Monday. Rev. and Mrs. J. H. Machen and children of Yorkvillc have returned home from a short visit-to Mr. J. T. Machen. . Mr. R. P. Poplar, July 5.?Well the glorious ?fourth has come and gone. Some from this community went to Ware Shoals and '.. .'Hi Messrs. Rembert, ^Nichols and Irby speak, and some of our young men and some that were not as young as they once were went fish ing at Boyd'8 Mill. They carried a nice chance of fish and 'had an old time fish fry on the river hank which was very much enjoyed by all pres ent. Tho crops in this vicinity are look ing very well, but they are about two weeks late and are beginning to need rain, corn especially. Mrs. Mary Burnett and children of Greenwood are visiting her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Walker. Mr. W. B. Davis and family were the guests of Mr. J. W. Redden dnst Sat urday night. Poplar Spring Sunday school will have children's day exercises Saturday July 12. All are nvlted to be present and enjoy the day. Mr. A. E. Pitts lost a valuable horse last Tuesday night. Kennedy left this morning for a fortnight's visit to friends in Tennessee. ' Rev. I. N. Kennedy left today for Alabama. He will hold a three weeks' meeting for Rev. J. L. Pressly. Mrs. Howard Caldwell, of Columbia, was the guest last week of her slstor, Mrs. O. L. Hunter. Mrs. Caldwell ad dressed the Civic League at a meet ing aold at the home of the president, Mrs. W. J. Fleming. The Friday Afternoon club luus^oen reorganized with the reelection or the former officers, Mrs. W. M. Bryeon, president, Miss Lizzie Cralg, vice president, Mrs. D. M. McCllntoek, sec retary and treasurer, and Mrs. W. U. Blakely, librarian. The following teachers are attend ing summer schools: Misses Bessie and Mamie Byrd, at Charlottesville, Va., Misses Margaret and Janie Blake ly, at Knoxvllle, Tcnn., and Miss Alice McCllntoek, at Rock Hill. Mrs. W. J. Bryson entertained tho Ladies Aid society at its last meet ing. Miss Lizzie Hagan assisted her sister, Mrs. Bryeon, in serving a de licious salad and Ice course. Mr. and Mrs. Muse, formerly Miss Eliza McDonald, of Dccatur, Ga., are visiting relatives here. They stopped over onroute to their home from a bridal trip to the mountains of west-! ein North Carolina. Meedames S.- II. Fleming and J. S. MoCllntock spent a most enjoyable day Thursday, with Mrs. Fannie Bailey in Clinton. 'Mrs. R; A. Young, of Tennessee, has made an extended visit to hor parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Blakely.
