? WATERLOO LETTER, ? ? * 'Waterloo, Juno 30.?Elises Minnie Winn and Wynona Long have return ed from a week's visit to Greenwood. Messrs J. C. Smith, J. T. Garrett and W. C. Wharton were business visitors to Greenville tills week. Mr. E. P. Walker is spending a few days in Waterloo with his home peo ple. Miss Lillie Oulbertson is visiting Mr. S. J. Rasor and family in Mount vllle. Prof. Thomas J. Jones, of Laurens, was a business visitor this week. Mr. L. L. Dendy, of Columbia, was here this week. Mrs. John N. Sims and children, of Central, are visiting relatives in and near Waterloo. Messrs J. T. Garrott and J. E. Hen derson spent last week in Hickory Grove with Mr. John Leec.b and fami ly. Mis Mary Smith is at home from a delightful visit to Saluda and Green wood. Miss Grace Miller returned Sunday from a visit to her brothers family in Augusta. On June 24th Mr. Joseph P. Whar ton, formally of Waterloo but who has been living In Greenwood for the past three years, was married to Miss Viola Keeter at the brides home in Grover, N. C, Mr. WBiarton and his bride spent several days in Ashevlllc and reached Waterloo Saturday. On Saturday afternon Mr. and Mrs. W. If. Wharton, the grooms parents tendered tho happy couple a recep tion. Quite a largo number were present and the occasion proved a very enjoyable one. Mr. and Mrs. Wharton will make their home In Greenwood and have the best wishes of many friends. Prof. W. P. Culbertson and family moved to Cross Hill this week. Prof. Culbertson will be principal of the Cross Hill graded school for the com ing term. Pirof Yarborough, of S-aluda, has been elected principal of the Waterloo Graded School He Is a Wofford grad uate and comes well recommended. The same assistants. The] larger children had no time to prac tice because of farm work, so the pro gram was mostly carried out by the little tots. It is surprising how Mrs. Nannie Balentine, Miss Sudic Modlock and Miss .loe Balentine can teach these little ones to act their pieces and sing thei rsongs so well. Mrs. Clara Balentine and Miss Kate Modlock have been visiting friends and relatives at Greenwood this week. Mrs. Balentine returned home yester day leaving Miss Medlock to return later. Miss Emma Bickens, of Greenville and Mrs. Mattie Downey, of Laurens, arc with their mother, Mrs. Mattie Medlock, for a few days. Mrs. J. H. Balentine Jr., Is suffering a great deal from rheumatism. Mrs. dim Chldress who was reported as being seriously ill, died nnd was buried at Turkey Creek church. Rev. Edgar Davis is at home for a season. We are glad to have the preacher here for a short time. LISBON LOCALS. Lisbon) Juno. 30.?Tho fanners have been quite busy for the last month getting through planting cotton seed and sowing peas and sorghum. Tho crops are very small at this date, and every thing has to be very favorable If we make any thing like a crop but we can't tell what the out come will bring.. The fruit crop will be a total failure and we will have to depend upon the melon crop entirely. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. A. Hallow gave a dance last week in honor of Misses Nettie reden, of Fountain Inn, and Jaynq A. Clement, of Amerlcus, Ga., who were tho charming guests of Miss Hessie llrown.
