Mr. and Mrs. J. E, Griffin, were host;
and hostess to a delightful 0 o'clock
luncheon last Thursday evening. Those I
present wore Rev. J. A. Martin, Rev.
W. I). Hat eh ford, Mr. and Mrs. W. T.
Austin, Mrs. Lena Puckett, Miss Jodie
Pool, of Anderson, Misses Mary Hrown
Mary Miller and Connie Martin, of
Cross Hill, Messrs. Luther Marlin,
Fail Rasor, Paul Martin, J, B. and
Charles Pinson. After a pleasant
hour, the guests were invited to the
dining room where a delicious lun
cheon was enjoyed and elegantly serv
ed, Misses Cora and Joste Griffin act
ing as waiters. As the guests left the
dining room pretty little Helen Grlf
fkii handed each guest a pretty souve
nir of the evening. The evening spent
with Mr. and Mrs. Griffin and their
charming daughters will be pleasantly
remembered. Miss Janle has just re
turned from Chicora college.
Mrs. J. E. Spearman died at the
hospital In Columbia last Friday. The
body was brought here lor burial on
Saturday. She leaves a husband, two
sons and a daughter, her mother and
other rolatives. Interment was at the
Presbyterian cemetery. The service
was conducted by Rev. W. D. Hatch
ford, assisted by Rev. J. A. Martin.
Many relatives and friends attended
the funeral. The pall bearers were
J. H. Rasor. Jno. W. Hann a, R. F
Walker, H. A. Pinson, P. B. Watts,
and J. F. Lea man.

Mr. Wm. Brissey has accepted a
position with Supervisor McCombs.
Mr. Hermon Mabry, of Cokesbury,
spent Sunday with his parents Mr. and
Mrs. J. C. Mabry.
Mr. Joe Oulla has a contract for1
hauling with the Gallaghin Co.
Our best wishes accompany Mr. S.
K. Richey and family, who have, moved
to Greenwood.
Mr. and Mrs. George Shirley, of Ab
beville visited the latters parents Mr.
and Mrs. James Rogers last Saturday.
Mr. N. G. Jones, Jr., visited his bIb
ter, Mrs. E. M. Cain of Laurens last
week.
There will be a barbecue at Ware
Shoals on the 4th?given for the pur
pose of raising money to build a Bap
tist chureh. Several speakers will be
present and a cordial invitation is ex-1
tended to all to attend.
Messrs Walter and Frank Jones have
sown a large crop of peas,
Messrs Algary Bros, IL L. Raser,
Tibie Cochran and Wm. Hutto have
fine crops of corn.
Arthur Hampton (col) has a very
promising crop.
Messrs. J. A. and W. II. Hill have
planted their line bottoms on Saluda
in corn.
We recently met Mr. James Rogers
or Honea Path, A. R. Thome of Ekom
and Mr. W. A. McCord of Spartanburg.
Mr. J. A. BoggS has sown a large
crop of peas.
Mr. a. L. Graham is our champion
gardener.
The farmers are exceedingly busy
while the prospect is gloomy on ac
count of failing to get a stanr'. of cot
ton until recently. Yet witli favorable
seasons and a late fall we may get
a fairly good crop.
