Washington, March 30.?Wood row Wilson will receive his 'pay check as president of the United States tomor row, .when Secretary McAdoo will pre sent him with a treasury warrant for $5,625, representing his salary from March 4 to 31. On pay days hereaf ter, however, the president will re ceive $6,250, a full month's propor tion of his $75,000 annual stipend. Tho treasury department contem plates establishing a precedent in :he method of paying President Wilson. Since the days of Washington, the president has been paid by what is known as an "accountable 'warrant,' which means money to he accounted for. A "settlement warrant" which closes an account has been given the president only on his last pay day when his services are debited In books) against the credits which have been made to him during his term of office. Mr. Wilson, however, probably will bei given a "settlement warrant" each month and his salary account with the government balanced monthly as his term transpires. No one today knows why the president always has been paid by an "account warrant" which is issued in other cases only in connec tion with advanced money. The president is the only official whose salary Is paid directly by the| treasury department. Vice President Marshall will receive from the sec retary of the senate the portion he has so far earned of his $12,000 an nual compensation. ********* ********* ? * The Laurens Cemetery. * * ****************** To Plot Owners and all who are in terested in the Laurens Cemetery: Your committee finds it necessary to state that the requests sent out by, our reasurcr for payment of the three| dollars ($3.00) have not all been heed ed and our treasury is low. Peforo ceasing to care for any plot we deem ed it best to again remind those who are in arrears, of tho Tact and to re quest that they send the amount In to our treasurer. We cannot make a personal visit to collect the amount and we feel sure that putting the mat tor off for future attention is respon sible for 'More arrearage than lack of interest in the cause or inability to pay i be small amount per capita, asked for. We have no other source of in come except your subscriptions and the rental of one cottage. To put the twenty five cents per month asked for from each plot owner into a common fund and expend this wisely, as wo have endeavored to do, is decidedly better than for each individual to try to look out for his own plot. Should the latter practice be reverted to who will care for the walks and roadways and outlying parts of tin; cemetery? It must be remembered that besides keeping your particular plot in order your contribution of three dollars per year will enable us to keep a man al ways on guard and at work for the benefit of all plot owners. The dam ages from washing rains can be Im mediately repaired, trespassers upon the property are warned off or de terred and every cent that we receive Is judiciously expended for the great est good to the greatest number. We therefore hope that without waiting for further solicitation from us that all who have not paid in response to our treasurer's cards, will send a check to her at once. On April 15th we will have to cease caring for such plots as have not been paid for at that time, as much as we regret to do it. Chattanooga has decided to raise front $r>o,ooo to $75,000 for entertainment of the reunion of confederate veterans to be held here May 27-211. Committees are at work securing cash and sub scriptions from the business men au 1 concerns of the city and community The fund will be secured without de lay. Since the formal organization near ly two months ago, the. reunion work has been pushed with energy by thir ty committees. The camp for the vet erans has been selected and named. It will be in Jackson Park, a splen did location near the business section of the city. The camp can be reached by three street car lines, all of which will operate, special schedules to ac commodate the veterans. It is plan ned to have a street car pass the camp every minute. . The camp has been named "Camp Stewart" in honor of the late Gen. A. 1'. Stewart, the renowned Confed erate chieftain. Tents and cots to the number of 1,400 and 10,000 respective ly, have been secured from the United States war department for the camp. The otlicial program of the reunion has not as yet been completed. It will provide, however, fr the custom ary parades, social functions and oth er entertainments. The first general mass meeting to hear reports from the various com mittees was held in the auditorium of the chamber of commerce Monday March 17. This meeting was largely attended and much enthusiasm pre vailed. Tlte question of parades was discussed at this meeting, and a very decided sentiment was shown for three separate parades, in place of one large parade. If this plan Is finally adopt ed, there will be a parade of maids of honor and Bponsoi'S, a parade of Sons of Confederate veterans and one for the veterans of the civil war. The question was not finally settled, how ever, at the mass meeting. ' All who may he interested in the coming reunion of the confederate vet erans are assured that Chattanooga will disc hit rge every obi gat ion that was shouldered when the veterans were asked to come here for their reunion last year at Maeon. An attendance of from 100,000 to 150,000 is expected, and Chattanooga will entertain it. Every possible effort is being made to arrange for the comfort and amuse ment of the veterans and other visi tors while hero?especially the veter ans, for all realize that the veterans are of first importance in whatever the citizens of Chattanooga do. Aside from the events which are collected with the reunion itself, such as are held in every city where the reunion goes, a special committee Is working up a series of amusements. Among these will he a very fine spec tacular display, the familiar story of "The Pied Piper of Ham tin," acted by from 1,500 to 2,500 persons, mostly children, at Warner Park, the ilty's 43 acre playground, There will bo flights in the air once or twice a day by some skilled aviator. These and other events will make a program for spare moments, and the principal fea tures will be held close to the veter ans camp.
