Secretary of Agriculture Will son has recently declared that the South eastern states constitute the ideal section of the United States for rais ing live stock and must bo looked to iu future years for the nation's food supply. To stimulate interest in the live stock industry and to aid the farmers successfully follow this line, the Southern Railway has established its live Stock department which is giving undivided attention to this work. Woodrow Wilson Denies having In vited the Venesuloan to the Inau guration Ceremonies. Washington, Feb. 28.-?State de partment officials announced today that Minister Beaupre had cabled from Havana thot Clplrano Castro the Ven ezulean, had announced there that President-elect Wilson had Invited him to the Inauguration ceremonies. President-elect Wilson, upon publi cation of the report, immediately de nied having invited Castro and brand ed any story to that effect as a false hood. . The Havana newspapers today printed reports that It was said that Castro had been Invited. The state department's announcement, however, was a positive one. Should Castro return to the United States from Cuba his re-entry into this country would not be opposed by Secretary of Commorco and Lahor Nagel. The secretary today declared ho would regard as binding the deci sion of the United States district court, at New York, overruling Mr. Nogel's order for the deportation of Castro when he arrived from France. The department of Justice Is consid ering an appeal from that decloion. Children are much more likely to contract tho contagious diseases when they have colds. Laurens Mill, March 3rd.?As I see each week in The Advertiser some splendid dots from other sections of our county and city, I feel constrain ed to drop In a word for our people at the Laurens mill, and feel assured that the editor will take pleasure in giving space for a few lines. The people seem to he well con. tented here and conditions generally are very encouraging. We are indeed glad to note that some of our sick arc improving. Among them are little Clara Franks, Eddie Wade and Mrs. W. H. Teague. Others perhaps are sick that we have not hoard but our sympathy goes out for them Just the same. Now the Watts mills correspond ence said some good things about their overseers and I feel that it was due those noble and efficient fellows for they are not only good mill men but are men of hieb character. But we will say just as much for our men down here and really wo feel that they are hard to cope with when it comes to mill work. There have been some splendid Improvements in side and out of tho Laurens mills that will so testify. Our force of men are J. M. Moore, superintendent, W. H. Gosnell, overseer of spinning. Jim Thomas second hand of spinning; O. N. Franks, overseer of carding with John Snoddy as second hand; W. H. Midden, overseer of weaving with Messrs Wood and Davis as second hands. Now If you want to see a jol ly good set of fellows just call in and get acquainted with these men. The Rev. W. M. Whlteside, of Spar tanburg, filled the pulpit of the Sec ond Baptist church last Sunday morn ing and night, preaching to good con. gregations. Mr. Whiteslde is one of the best informed men on mill work that we have and it was quite a treat to hear him, along the line of work among the mill churches. Ills ser mon was Indeed helpful In every way. At the night services the church or dained as deacons, Messrs S. W. Rut ledge and John Martin. Mr. Whltosldo having charge of the ordination, which was very Impressive. They did not deem the matter worthy of an appropriation, but many of the girls over the County are beg ging for the Club and I have made up my mind to do the very l>ost I can for you. Our girls have been neglec ted too long already. Their bands should be taught as well as their minds. There is enough fruit and vogltables wasted in the country every summer to supply us during the win ter. We want, to stop this. We want to teach the girls how to can and stop this waste.
