Dr. Routh filled his appointmont
here last Thursday and organized the
work. Ho was met by the local doc
tors and a number of citizens, who
think the work ought to be encourag
ed and that people ought to get all
relief possible where there is Infec
tion. It is hoped that our doctors
will take an Interest in the work and
soon be able to stamp out the disease
wherever found. People ought to lixy
aside all prejudice and co-operato
with them. Dr. Routh will be hero
again Thursday.
Maj. Joseph T. Ligon, of Greenwood,
was With his people here Saturday
and Sunday. Mr. Ligon has many
friends here who are always glad to
see him.

Just why the women would not take
part was not made clear until Mrs.
Helen n. Gardener, head of the pub
licity eomlttee, said no invitation had
been received from the Inaugural
committee.
"The Asoclntlon," Mrs. Gardener
said, "cannot very well take part In
the Inauguration and, then you see,
the inaugural committee has definite
ly decliined to permit us to use the
stands it has erected for the Inaugural
parade. We have appealed to the
Senate committee on public buildings
and grounds for the use of the space
on th - southslde of the treasury
building on which we would erect a
largo stand. We hope the commit
tee will grant our request."

Watts Mill, Jan. 27.?A heavy rain
fell in this vicinity on last Friday
and it seemed as if this part of the
country would witness another wash
out similar to that in August of some
years ago.
Rev. Mr. Lewis, pastor of the Meth
odist church, preached to la large
congregation at Watts Mills lust Sun
day night. He preached from John
10:10. He preached a strong jer
mou, showing the work of the evil
one, how ho came Into this world to I
kill and destroy. He then showed
why Christ came: "That we might
huve life and have it more abundant

vlllo Sunday, whore he preached at
the Duneon Mills.

who has been visiting her daughter,
Mrs. Clarence Hobo, who has boon
quite ill. returned to her home the
latter part of the week.

The Henderson Baptist church was
orguulzed at the home of Mr. W. I*.
Thomason, near Tumbling Shoals,
last week. A presbytery, consisting of
Rev. W. K. Thayer, Rev. B. P. Mitchell.
Rev. J. A. Martin. J. P. Simmons and
H. O. Walker met and organized the
church. Rev. Henry Morrison, of
Honea Path, was chosen as pastor of
tho church. The church starts out
with a membership of fifteen and gives
promise of being a very strong con
gregation.
