Sec. 2. That every person, firm,
company or corporation required by
this ordinance to obtain a license to
engage In trade, business or profes
sion for which a license is required
shall at the time of applying for such
license make a statement under oath
before an officer qualified to adminis
ter oaths and file said statement with
the City Clerk setting forth:
1. His or her name, style of firm,
name of company or corporation.
2. The trade business or profession
for which a license is required.
3. In those cases in which such In
formation is required, the amount of
business of the previous year, upon
which amount license shall be assess
ed, and in cases where business has
not been carried on the previous year,
then the amount of business expect
ed to be carried on during the cur
rent year, and upon said amount the
license shall be assessed, provided,
however, that if such statement or re
turn hereinabove provided for is not
satisfactory to the City Council or 1b
not considered true then the said City
Council after notice given to the per
son, firm or corporation making "said
oath or statement or return shall take
testimony and determine the true
amount of business or basis upon
which the proper amount of license
shall be fixed.
Sec. 21$. The City Clerk shall there
upon assess the proper license tax as
provided for in this ordinance, and
upon being paid said assessment, as
herein required, shall issue the prop
er license
Sec. 2C. For any business, profes
sion or occupation not enumerated
in the foregoing Section, the license
shall he tlxed by the Mayor.
Sec. 3. That all licenses issued un
der and by virtue of this ordinance
shall be non-transferable and except
licenses for a day, week or month,
shall terminate on the 31st day of
December of the year In which they
were issued, but may be revoked at
any time by the City Council of Lau
rens for satisfactory cause. Except
licenses issued for n day, week or
month, annual rates shall be charged
for all licenses issued between Janu
ary 1st and June 30th of each year.
Three.fourths annual rate shall be
charged for all licenses issued between
July 1st and September 30th of each
year, and half rate shall be charged
for all licenses Issued between Oc
tober 1st and December 31st of each
year. Licenses are taken out for given
time. In case licenses are not used full
time money will not be refunded.
Sec. b. Any person or firm or cor
poration carrying on or prosecuting
any busncss or running any establish
ment named In the preceding sections
of this ordinance without first having
obtained a license therefor shall be
fined, except In cases where penalties
are otherwise imposed, the sum of
one dollar, or be Imprisoned In the ci
ty prison or county jail or city or
county chaingang for a period of one
day for each and every day such bus
iness Is carried on without such li
cense, In addition to the license tax.
Such penalties, however, shall not
exceed a fine of $30.00 or imprison
ment for 30 days.
Sec. 5. Any person, firm or corpora
tion wilfully making any false or
fraudulent return, where a return Is
required, shall upon conviction before
the Mayor or City Council be fined not
less than $20 or be imprisoned for not
less than 30 days, at the discretion of
the Mayor or City Council.
Sec. 6. No preaching, lecturing or
speaking of any nature will be per.
milted on the streets of the city
without a written permit from the
Mayor.
Sec. 7. Tho foregoing ordinance
shall go into effect Immediately and
all ordinances inconsistent herewith
bo and tho same are hereby repealed.
All able bodied male residents of
the city of Lauren8 between the ages
of 18 and 50 years shall each pay a
per capita tax for street Improvements
the sum of $2.00 on or before the first
day &l March. 1913 sr.ri all persons
failing to pay said street tax on or
before the first day of March shail pay
to the City Clerk the sum of $4.00 as
such street tax and falling to do so
shall upon conviction be punished as
otherwise provided by the city ordi
nance.

also to levy and collect a sufficient
amount to pay the interest upon the
bonded indebtedness of the said city
for the year 1913 and to raise a sink

Be it ordained by the City Council
of the City of Laurens:
Sec. 1. That a tax of Seventy-five
(75) cents on every one hundred dol
lars worth of property, real and per
sonal, not exempt by law from taxa
tion within the corporate limits of the
City of Laurens. be and the same Is
hereby levied for corporate purposes
to defray the public expenses of the
City of Laurens for the fiscal year
commencing January 1st., 1913 and
to meet other indebtedness as has
been contracted by said city for cor.

uary except those who are incapable
of earning a support from being maim
ed or from other causes, are deemed
polls, Confederate veterans excepted.
Also all male citizens between the
ages of 18 and 50 on the 1st day of
January, 1914, are liable to a road tax
of $1.50 and are required to make
their return of same to the Auditor
during the time above specified and
shall pay to the County Treasurer at
the same time other taxes are paid In
lieu of working the road.
All taxpayers are required to give
Township and No. of School District;
also state whether property is situat
ed In town or country. Each lot. tract
or parcel of land must be entered sep
arately.
After the 20th of February 50 per
cent penalty will be attached for fail
ure to make returns.

Taxes for fiscal year. 1912, at the
reasurer's Office from October 15th.
to December :'.lst. 1912. After Decem
ber 31st. one per c?nt will be added.
After January ..1st. two per cent, will
be added, and after February 28th.,

15th day of March, 1913, when the
books will be closed.

All able-bodied male citizens be
