Miss Dorcas Calmes, who has been visiting In Charlotte and Gaffney, has returned home. Dr. W. H. Irby and Mr. T. H. McGee were among those who went to New York last' week. Judge R. C. Watts has returned home after spending a couple of weeks at Hot Springs, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Wllkes have re turned home after spending a short time in Hendersonville. Mr. I. C. Coleman, who Is now liv ing in Charlotte, is spending a few days here with relatives. Miss Rebecca Clark was among those who went to New York and other northern cities last week. Mrs. W. C. Irby.Jr.. has returned from Jacksonville, Ala., where she has been visiting her parents. Mr. George Pitts has returned home after spending a few days' vacation in Edgefteld and other points. Misses Annie Campbell and Laura Vance are the guests of Miss Nellie Poole on North Harper street. Mrs. Ella Walsh and Mrs. W. A. Walker, of Augusta, Ga., are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wallace. Mr. R. W. Willis has returned from Hot Springs, N. C. where he has been spending a two weeks vacation. Mr. Marvin Franks, of Charleston, is in the city visiting relatives and shaking hands with his friends. Mr. John Brooks has returned to the city after spending several weeks on a vacation in the mountains. Master Laurens Crews has returned home after a plensent stay 'of a few days with his friends In Newberry. Mr. J. T. Taylor, who has been In New York In the Interest of Davis Roper Company, has returned home. Messrs. Clyde Franks and Ossle An derson were among ?hose who went to New York and Washington last week. Miss Majorie Gelder has returned home after spending several weeks In Ninety Six as the guest of friends. Miss Mae Lock wood, of Shell man, Ga., who has been visiting relatives here, will leave today for New York City. Mrs. Irvin Coleman of Greenwood, Is spending a while at Seven Oaks, the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shaw. Miss Olivia Riddle and Miss Olynthla Rhodes spent Saturday In Clinton with their cousin Miss Electra Riddle. Mrs. T. D. Darlington and children haxe returned from Sulllvans Island, where they have been spending the summer. Mr. D. A. Davis is in New York buying goods for Davis Roper Com pany and getting his line of samples in shc'ipe. Miss Mae Cogburn, who has been attending a reunion of the Cogburn family at Norway, is expected home tomorrow. The Rev. R. Z. Nabors. of the Ep worth Orphanage, Columbia, S. C, vis ited his cousin, Mr. Alex N. Rramlett, last week. Mr. J. M. Ramsey, of Spartanburg, . has been visiting in the city for sev eral days, having come down in his automobile. ' Mrs. Jas. G. Clary and daughter, Pearle, left Friday for a week or ten day's stay at Saluda, Hendersonville and Ashevillo. Misses Amelia and Lllla Todd have returned home after spending several days in Newberry as the guests of Mrs. Alan Johnstone. Miss Beta Meredith has returned to her duties at the post office after spending a pleasant vacation In Gray Court and Newberry. Mr. J. H. Parks and family, former residents of Laurens, now living in Abbeville, have*been spending the past week here with friends. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Thames and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Moore, all of Charles ton, are the guests of Dr. and Mrs. H. K. Alken for a few days. Miss Margaret H?cker of Charlotte, N. C, and Miss Eleanor Lewis of New Brunswick. N. J., are the guests this week of Mrs. Hunter McColl. Miss Janie Bryson, of Atlanta. Miss Sallie May Lockwood. of Shellman,. da. and Mr. Ben Berrie, of Green vllle, are visiting Miss Minnie Wal lace. Miss Mayme Hudgens, of Carters ville, Georgia, visited her cousin, Miss Nannie Franks, at the home of Mrs. Alex Bramlett, on Church street, last week. Mr. John W. Barrett, cashier of the Pascalgula, Miss. National Bank is here spending a short while with his uncles, Maj. W. A. Watts and Judge R. C. Watts. Messrs. B. L. Clardy and Luther Wasson are going on a rampage to Johnson City Thursday, taking advan tage of the cheap rates by the C. & W. C. railroad. The many friends of Mrs. W. R. Richey, Jr. will be glad to know that she has completely recovered and is now at home after several weeks spent at the hospital. Mr. R. W. Nash, formerly superin tendent of education of this county and now a resident of Greenville, has been in the county for a number of days visiting relatives. Mrs. F. P. Todd, have gone to Due West and Anderson ! to spend several weeks before return ing to their home In Albany, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Wilkes, of Lau rens are stopping at the Blue Ridge hotel today. The election is drawing near and I write to inform our friends that I have met with Increasing en couragement each day. Tbe people of the state have ' been exceedingly kind, courteous and' attentive not a single disagreeable Incident has marr ed our meetings. I' was born, and raised in this county and my parents on both sides have been here for five generatioaa. I have speat all my life here and have worked hard to build up the interests of the town, county and state. Most everyone knows what I have done. I have used my best efforts to create something, add to the taxable value and give employment to labor ers. I am running for the office be cause I want to be elected and I de sire to be elected because I believe and know that I can be of great ben efit to the South. South Carolina in particular. Sen. Tlllraan admits that he is physically unable to attend to the duties of the office. He has been able and the state has been kind to him. I an/ not asking him to resign, or munnyig against his term of office, but am asking the people to elect me to succeed him. Rdgeneld county has held this honor for 30 year?.
