Among those here from Gray Court Monday was Mr. W. J. Wells. Mr. Messer Babb continues very 111 at bis home on Farley avenue. Mrs. It. A. Mickel, of Bessemer, Ala., is visiting Miss Lutre Eichelberger. Dr. J. L. Fennell of Waterloo was a business visitor in Laurcns Monday. Mr. C. W. Tune has returned home after spending several weeks in Geor gia. Capt. R. F. Fleming, of Greenwood, was in the city Monday visiting rehu tives. Miss Nellie Wallace spent Tuesday and Wednesday with friends in Au gusta. Mr. John Wells Tood is expected home today after spending a week in Montreat. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Langston of Darlington are visiting relatives in the county. Mr. John Gilkerson left Sunday for a vacation trip to Virginia Beash and other points. Miss Lady Miller, of Abbeville, Is visiting Miss Helen Miller on West Main street. Mr. John Brooks left Friday for Glenn Springs, where he will spend several weeks. Mr. Jeff Adams has returned home after a few days spent in the lower part of the state. Mr. R. S. Thompson and son. of Douglas, Ga., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Little. Mr. M. A. Jones and little son Jesse, from near Gray Court, were visitors in the city Monday. Mr.Mac Irby has returned to Char leston after spending several days with his relatives here. Mrs. R. E. Simmes, of Chester will arrive today to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Burton. Mr. Frank Spratt has returned home after spending several weeks with his family in 1 Iendersonvllle. Mr. W. G. Lancaster returned home Frida;- after a few days vacation with his parents near Spartanhurg. Miss Claude Gray returned to Gray Court Friday after spending several days with Miss Julia Chlldress. Mrs. C. C. Featherstone returned to Greenwood Saturday, after a visit of m few days with friends here. .Miss Josephine Fuller and Mr. Dick Fuller have gone to Mont t eat where they will spend several weeks. Misses Mary and Ella Sherard, of Ninety Six, arrived last night to visit their aunt, Mrs. W. II. Gilkerson. Mr. Joe Phlnney, of Clinton, was in the city Monday night and attended the dance at the Traynham Guards hall. Mrs. J. W. Powell and son. of Wil mington. N. C, are In the city visiting Mrs. Rosa I. Caine and Mrs. Virginia Caine. Misses Elizabeth and Fourney Hill, of Greenville, and Miss Bessie Davis, of Florida, are the guests of Mrs. Vir ginia Caine. Mrs. I). A. Davis and Miss Mary Belle Fuller have gone to Henderson ville, N. C. where they will spend about a month. Miss Mary Posey, from Laurens. Is visiting her aunt. Mesdames Palmer and Dukes. Cokesbury Cor. The Greenwood Index, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Swygert and daughter. Sarah Eliza, left Friday for Glenns Spring, going by automobile. They will be away for several weeks. Miss Dlt White of Greenville. Miss Lucile Harris of Clinton and Miss Linda Thompson, of Douglas. Ga.. are guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Little. Mrs. W. D. Ferguson, Miss LochrldgO of Virginia, and little Misv; Laura Vance Jones returned Friday after a delightful stay of several weeks on Sullivans Island. Mrs. W. B. Smith, of Dillon, has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Clarke. Mr. Clarence Smith, who is In business at St. Matthews, has also been visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Clarke. Among the recent arrivals at Char leston from New York, by the Clyde Line, was Col. T. D. Darlington, of this city. He is now with Mrs. Darl ington on Sullivans Island. The following young ladies are the sruests this week of Mr, and Mrs. L. A. McCord: Miss Mamie J. Lewis, Miss Charlotte Rucker. Miss Evelyn Rucker of Charlotte and Miss Cowart of Spar tanburg. Miss Lena Elliott, of Sumtor, and Mrs. Allen Fleming, of Athens, Oa., former" residents of Laurens, have been spending a few days in the city visiting friends and rencwlng\old ac quaintences. Mr. D. A. Davis left this wlrjek for Hendorsonvllle where he will f spend J some time with his family. Before re turning home he will visit the north ern markets in the interest of his firm Davis-Roper Company. The many friends throughout the county of Mr. S. D. Chlldress will re gret to know that his condition has not changed for the better. However he is doing as well as could be ex pected under the conditions. Misses Louie Mason and Pearl Hays, and Miss Abel, of Rock Hill, and Messrs T. P. P. Carson, Jodie Chandler and Cyrus Bailey composed a party that came up by automobile from Clin ton to the dance Monday night. Dr. J. A. Holmes, the distinguished son of Laurens, head of the govern ment Bureau of Mines and Mining, spent the day here Saturday with his relatives, Dr. and Mrs. L. S. Fuller. Dr. Holmes was enroute from the Qood Roads meeting at Charlotte. Miss Corrie Hart, who has been at her old home gladdening the hearts of her friends and relatives with her merry laughter, leaves Thursday to visit her sisters in Greenville, Mes dames Marchbanks and Bannister. Aug. 2.?A very pretty wedding took place on the ev ening of Thursday, August 1st, at the parsonage when Mr. Murphy K. Trayn ham of Princeton was united In the holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Alice Cuson of Toney Creek Greenville coun ty. The happy wedding pat'ty assem bled In the parlor which was decorat ed with boquets of flowers In honor of the occasion, and took their places at the marriage altar under the elec tric lights which added much bril liancy to the gay xnd festive scene. The bride and groom were a very handsome couple as they stood before the minister and were made man and wife according to the impressive and beautiful ritual of the Presbyterian church. Rev. .1. M. Dallas, pastor of Friendship church performed the cere mony. The bride was handsomely gowned In white lingerie with beauti ful picture hat to match. She was supported by her sister. Miss Frances Cason of Greenville as bridesmaid, while Mr. George McCuen was best j man. At the conclusion of the wed ding ceremony Miss -Margaret C. Dal las played the Wedding March from Lohengrin, after which the happy pair received the hearty congratulations of their friends. After signing the mar riage register tlte wedding party loft for the home of Mr. Traynham where the honeymoon will be spent. The young bridegroom is well and favora bly known in Laurens county as a young man of great promise. Mr. Traynham has already made his mark in mercantile pursuits, and is possess ed of a fine character. Ho ! elongs to an excellent family, his father and mother being well known and highly respected. Y? to Rev. Karle Vandorn Babb, now a res ident of Kaslcy. Rfcv. Mr. Babb is a native of this county, having been reared in the Rabun section of the county and has numerous friends and relatives here. He was a minister in New York state for several years and there met Miss Bennett. He Is now pastor of a largo congregation at Kasley. Several of our young folks attended the singing school exercises at High land Home, Saturday. Hillside Is waking up. The commit tee on repairs have been busily at work and have secured the necessary funds for the repairing. New lamps have been placed In the church, and considerable work has been done on the building. Our hustling young pastor, Rev. E. G. Ross, has be^n ac tively engaged in his work. He has done considerable In helping to put Hillside church at the front, and there by greatly helping the entire commun ity. The ancestors of Champ Clark, speaker of the National House are buried near Hillside.
