Harmony, April 13.?The easter ser-]
\ ici> at this place came off last Sun
day night. A very large crowd was
in attendance to witness the recita
tions. The little children acted and
recited their pieces well and the ac
companying music was real fine, and
we think our organist, Miss Joe Bal
entine, and the choir deserve praise
for making so line music all from new
pieces. Mrt>. Mannte Balentine, Miss
Sudie Medlock and others deserve
?complimenting for being so success
ful In training the little "wee" tots
so well. It was a grand success In
every partlculaary. Every one pres
ent enjoyed the occasion. Kev. Ray
Andenton, of Laurens, was present
and opened the service with prayer.
Mrs. Clara Balentine, the teacher of
one of the primary classes, has not
been able to meet her class for some
time. We were glad 10 see her able
to attend the service.
Miss Lula Simpson, of Greenville,
was at home with her parents a few
days last week, but returned Tuesday.
Miss Agnes Simpson has accepted a
position in Greenville and left for
that city last Tuesday.
Mrs. Elindor Seibert Is very feeble
and has been for some time.
A great many of our people were
somewhat surprised this week when
it became known that Miss Mira Wood
of this place had become ?he wife of
Mr. James Terry of near Fork Shoals,
Thursday evening. The ceremony wns
performed by Mr. Luther Gnahum,
assisted by Rev. Ray Anderson of Lau
rens. Mrs. Terry wasa tho eldest
daughter of Mr. Jesse A. Wood of this
community and Mr. Terry a progres
sive farmer of Fork Shoals. Only a
few relatives were present to wit
ness the ceremony. We join a host
of friends in wishing the new couple
a happy voyago and a pleasant sail
through life
Mrs| Anna Boho of Union has been
visiting Mr. J. A. Wood and was pres
ent at the Wood-Terry wedding.

that 1 have known since I can remem
ber anything or anybody, was called
and unconsciously I exclaimed, in the
vernacular he used, when in telling us
tales, in the days of our childhood?
"May he have been at Peace" with
the old master of us all!"
Uncle Anderson was the best type of
an ante bellum darky and was respect
ed by all bis white neighbors.. He
was not one of our family negroes but
ho lived with my father when be first
went to house-keeping and he was the
"Uncle Kenuis" of our young days.
Well do I remember bow he delighted
to bear u.t children slug and especial
ly me for I sang just a little bit loud
er than the others. One day on Ills
way (o the Held, he stopped with it
crowd of others and asked me to sing.

Anderson who kept continually re
peating "Dat chile can shore sing!"
My mother had told me onco before
that I mustn't sing that song every
'.time so when Pa came In from the

disobedience. With a tremble In his
eye, he placed his hand on my curly
head and said to the mother "Let the
child alone, Liza, it's bred in the
love!" 1 didn't know what he meant
by that, but I did know by the trem
ble, I could sing the song all I pleas
ed and now today they are gone, all
gone?the clear, precious mother?the*
gentle lovable father and the old tlnio
darky that we knew and felt was a
friend.

.mine look ahead with something of

time shall come when nil these ne
| groes that were once slaves are gone.
They had and will have as long as
they live, an abiding faith and love for
the white man. What shall happen
"when another generation comes that
knew not Joseph?"
