MYRTLE HAWKINS CASE AGAIN.
Warrants Taken Out For Those Sus

mystery of the death Of Myrtle Haw
kins, whose dead body was found
floating in the waters of Lake Osceo
la last September, was brought a step
nearer to solution this afternoon
when the Henderson county grand
jury. Bitting at Hendorsonville, re
turned true bills charging murder
against Aimer McCall, his wife, Beat
rice McCalt, and George Bradley,
and a woman '"unknown to the jury."
Honey Bradley, a brother of George.
1b charged with being an accessory
before the fact to said murder, and
Dan McCall, father of Mrs. McCall,
is charged with being an accessory
after the fact.
Immediately following the reading
of the bill of indictment warrants
were issued for the Indicted parties
and all were arrested and placed in
Henderson county jail. Dan McCall
was tonight admitted to bail in the
sum of $ln.(ion, but similar action was
refused in the cases of the others.
The Bradleys and McCalls will be
tried at the May term of the Hender
son county superior court.
Criminal Operation.
The bll lot' indictment specified that
the parties named therein had guilty
knowledge of a criminal operation.
Which resulted in the death of Myrtle
Hawkins.
"Bonoy" Bradley, who makes his
first appearance in the case, was sum
moned before the grand jury Wednes
day and partially identified by Dr.
.1. II. Williams, of Asheville, as being
tho man who last .Bine came to his
ofllCO and asked that he (Dr. Wil
liams) perform a certain operation,
a request which was refused. Dr.
Williams Identified a photograph of
Myrtle Hawkins as being that of the
girl who called at his ofilce tlie next
day. She left on Dr. William's re
fusal to aid her.
Public Dlssntlslied.
The body of Myrtle Hawkins was
found in Lake Osceola on Sunday.
September 13, of last year, in a badly
decomposed condition. The first cor
oner's Inquest resulted in a verdict to
the effect that deceased had met her
death in a manner unknown to the
jury. The Unding caused much pub
lie comment of an unfavorable nature
and this resulted In a statement by
the coroner of Henderson county that
the verdict was so worded and ren
dered In the hope of allaying the sus
picions of the guilty person or per
sons. A second Inquest was held on
September 17. many new witnesses
being examined. The verdict follow
ing stated that Myrtle Hawkins came
to her death "at the hands of a per
son or persons unknown to the jury."
Since that time Solicitor Hall .John
son of this district, and the Hender
BOIlville police have worked steadily
on the case. Rewards were offered
by the county and state amounting in
all to $s:.o.

Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Harksdale spent
a very pleasant day Sunday with Mr.
\V. A. Qarrett and family.
Miss Mae Porter went to Laurens
last Saturday.
Mrs. Mary Putnam remains ill at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. w. a.
Garrett.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene T. Cummings
are spending several months with
Mr. Cummlug'8 father in Beaufort, s.
c.
Mr. I.eon Veargln made a business
trip to Gray Court last Friday.
Mr. W, a. Putnam accompanied by
his daughter. Corlnne, spent Satur
day in the city shopping.
Mr. Lawrence Withers is quite ill
at the home of his mother.
Quito a number of the Harksdale
school children are suffering from an
epidemic of the measles. Among them
are Mr. Cecil Jackson, Masters Laman
Owens and Charley Owens.

Messrs. J. W. Peterson and T. P,
Poole wore in I.au;ens on business
Friday.
Mr. Furman Poole was in Laurens
Saturday.
