Miss Mary Dillard, of Clinton, was a vl?ltor in the city last Thursday. Mrs. J. Ross Dorroh. of Cray Court, is visiting relatives and friends in the oity. Miss Ina Little spent several days with friends and relatives in Clinton laut week. Mrs. J. F. Holt and Miss Sarah Bolt loft Monday for McColl to visit Mrs. Frank Tatum. Mrs. G. W. L. Teaguo and daughter, of the near Waterloo, were in the city shopping Thursday. Mr. Eugene CummlngS and Mrs. Garrett, of Barksdale, were shopping Jn the city Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Wright and chil dren, of Woodruff, spent the week-end in the city with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Babb, of the Rabun Creek section, visited Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Babb Friday and Saturday. Mrs. W. R. McCuen and Miss Mar garet Miller attended the Wharton Kirk wedding in Cross Hill yester day. Mr. and Mrs. Sam R. Dorroh, of Riverside Farm, spent the week-end in the city as the guests of Mrs. W. T. Dorroh. Mrs. C. L. Rounds arrived in the oi:y Wednesday to be with her hus band and sons who are remodeling the court house. Mr. Robert Thames, of Birmingham, Ala., spent a few hours in the city Wednesday with his sister. Miss Fran cis Thames. Mrs. W. W. Jones returned home Saturday after spending some time with her daughter, Mrs. O. B. May es, at Newberry. Hon. Samuel F. Garlington, of Au gusta, spent several days in the city last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Creswell Garlington. Mr. and Mrs. I. Archie Willis were in the city yesterday for a few hours. M . Willis is now farming in the vi cinity of Owings Station. Capt. and Mrs. R. i". Fleming, of <; eon wood, spent several days in the city last week with their son, Mr. R. F. Fleming and other relatives. Mi ssis. F. B. Rasor, Henry Rasor. A. Mason Hill and .1. C. Workman came up from Cross Hill Monday by automobile and spent several hours In the city. The friends of Rev. and Mrs. C. F. K.nkin will regret to learn that Mrs. Rankin, who has been in Atlanta for ' -nine time, will have to be taken to one of the hospitals for an operation. Mrs. J, V. Wallace lias gone to Au gusta for a few weeks to be with Mr. Wallace. The friends of Mr. Wallace ?will be glad to know that he was pro moted to a higher position with the I railroad a few days ago. Mrs. C. A. Foster ami little son, Charles, of Timmonsvilie, arrived in tie city Friday. Mrs. Foster bit yesterday for Greenwood where she will attend the Convention of the Daughters of the Confederacy. TWO SMALL PTKKS. Prompt Work on the Par! Ol" the Fire Department Saved Two Houses Mondin Morning. The tire department made a hurry Call to the home of Mr. William Sol onion Monday morning tf> extinguish flames in the roof of the building. Af ter a fast run by the big horses and; a quick connection by the firemen, the "boys" scaled the building and j soon had the fire at their mercy and in a few minutes it was out. Unfor tunately, Mr. Tom Divver, one of the firemen, slipped on the wet roof and] fell to the ground and was painfully though not BOrlOMBly injured. While the Are at Mr. olomon's house was being put out the telephone gave the alarm of a second blaze and this one turned out to be at the home of Mr, W. Ii. McCuen. The volunteer fire department, as is their custom, showed up in good form and did splendid work. As us ual, however, when the flremen were on top of th? building ruining their clothes and getting more or less dirt ed up, a few men were found stand ing by with their hands in their pock ets nicking flaws with the work. Noe. 20.?The ladies of the town gave Miss Annette Wharton the bride to be, a linen shower last Saturday afternoon at the home of Mr. ami Mrs. M. T. Simpson. A largo number of ladies and chil dren, friends of the young lady were present and many handsome and use ful presents were given. When the guests had all assembled four little Kills, Lola Boyce, Jon noli a Austin. Al ma Colcman and Nell Mill came In bearing two pretty baskets with pres ents and showered them over the young lady. Pretty paper and pencils were handed around and thoBe pres ent wrote down good wishes for the bride to be. The dining room was thrown open and hot chocolate and dainty crackers wero served.
