CHINESE REBELS
GAINING GROUND
Their Leader has Proclaimed that be
is "President of the Republic of
China."
Pekln, China, Oct. .7.?Gen. LI Yuen
Heng, leader of the rebel forces, has
Informed the, foreign consuls at Han
kow that he has been proclaimed
"president of the Republic of China."
The foreign ministers here have ex
changed communications with LI upon
several subjects. They objected to his
announcement that vessels carrying
contraband would be subject to con
fiscation and also to his proposal to
administer the custom revenues at the
port of the Yen;-. Tse Klang and other
cities when controlled by the revolu
tionists. The latter objection was
based on the fact that the revenues
are pledged as security for foreign
loans and should he turned over to
the British inspector general of cus
toms in China.
Reports that the minister of war
Gen. Yin Tchang, is dead, continues
ill circulation, and are believed by
many Chinese.
Sheny Hsunn Hual, who was re
moved from the olllce of minister of
posts an I communications as a con
cession to the national assembly yes
terday, had a narrow escape from as
sassination here today. He lied to
the American legation, whence he was
later escorted by a squad of ten sol
diers to Tien Tsin.
Edward T. Williams, the American
charged" affairs, denies, However,
that Sheng Tsuan Hual entered the
American legation today, but says he
can not discuss the minister's depar
ture from Peking.
The Assof iated Press has been able
to piece together th",following infor
mation concerning the High! ot Sheng
from a proclamation circulated among
the members of the national assembly.
One of Sheng s adherents visited the
American legation today and after a
hurried conference proceeded to Hie
place from which the two ministers
returned later to Peking.
Later the French, German and
British ministers, accompanied by the
Amm'tcni) charge, drove to the resi
dence of Prince Ching, the premier,
and lodged an objection to a possible
decree in line witli the wishes of the
assembly.
Some persons say Sheng departed
from Peking Thursday, but that he
left by train for Tien Tsin tills after
noon seems more probable. At Tien
Tsin and Shanghai the foreign resi
dents will give Sheng the protection
of the foreign police. Representatives
of the governments concerned in the
railway and currency agreements felt
In honor bound To intervene for his
safety, as they or their predecessors
had pressed him to conclude these
contracts and also urged him to take
the strong stand which resulted In
the present upheaval. While the rev
olution had been brewing previous to
the conclusion of these contracts it
is considered here that the foreign
loan policy finally precipitated it.

It is worse than useless to attempt

Constipation is caused oy a weak

To i xpect permanent relief you must

What a Valuable Message to the World
THAT OLD, RELIABLE 4-cylinder, 5-passenger Model T touring Car,
unchanged during its four years before the public, except for a
few refinements, put on the market now $690--equipped to the last
detail. The Model T Commercial Roadster for $590. The Model T
Town Car for $900. And a new Delivery Wagon on the same Model T Chassis
for $700. These prices include full equipment: Extension Top, Automatic
Brass Windshield, Gas Lamps, Generator and Speedometer. Is there any
wonder that "When Ford Speaks the World Listens."
If this were the 1111110111100111011 of a new model you might be skeptical of the car's
merits, but Kord Model T is the best known car on earth. More of them are on the high
ways of the world than there arc of any other motor car.
This is the fifth session of the Model T and its absolute reliability has been proven by
80,000 satisfied Model T owners. Think how that car has been tried and tested in four
years of hard service. Kord owners in every quartet of the globe will tell you today that
their Model T Cars are reliable in every emergency and of surprising efficiency and utility
under any and all conditions. After all of the millions of miles those oars have traveled,
everybody knows the Kord Model T is right.
Ana that's the same sterling'car that is being built for nji t?75,000 of them?with
added features which go to make it even more convenient and valuable for users. Ky rea
son of the largely increased production, with consequent economy in buying and making,
the price of 1912 has been largely reduced.
We are now ready to close contracts with Agents and Dealers for
1012 business.
