Stpt .11.?Prof, and Mrs. Smith, of Saluda, have moved to this place. Prof. Smith will be in charge of the Cross Hill school. They oc cupy the Spearman cottage on North Main street. School will begin on the ISth. Misses Gertrude Leaman and Bessie Hill will go to Rock Hill this week to stand the examination required to en ter Winthrop college. Miss Anne Austin will leave Thurs day for Philadelphia to enter a Worn an's Mt'lical college. Miss Kite Austin will go to Mc Cormick, S. C. to teach in the graded school there. Miss Sara Beeks has gone to John ston to teach in the graded school at that place. Mrs. Metts and children of Whit mire visited Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Mil ler last week. Mrs. Metts has a blind daughter. She Is sixteen and has been totally blind for five years. She is a student at Cedar Springs, is a splen did musician, and does a lot of fancy work. She is a bright girl and quite cheerful. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Austin enter tained at a party last Tuesday even ing In honor of Misses Edith and Louise Austin, Gertrude and Leonora Leaman, Annette WhaA'ton. Connie Martin, Mary Miller. Miss Mary Billard of Clinton spent the week-end with Misses Kate and Anne Austin: This correspondent suggests that trustees and patxons meet at school building next Monday to welcome the teachers. Rev. (',. M. Hollingsworth will at tend the meeting of Enoree Presby tery at Laurens next week. Dr. Peak and Mr. A. M. Hill left town n few days ago in an auto with their dogs to enjoy a fox chase with Mr. J. D. W. Watts of Laurens. I sup pose they did not follow the chase In their auto, but Dr. Peak can do it If anyone can and be there to "tail" the fox too. Diarrhoea is always more or less prevalent during September. For sale by all dealers, MANGLED BY A TB A IN. Eugene Hackett killed at Crossing In Greenwood?Buggy Struck by En gine. Greenwood, Sept. 11.?Eugene H. Hackett. a citizen of Greenwood, met an awful death this morning at 7 o'clock, when an incoming freight train struck him, a& he was crossing the track in a buggy. Mr. John Rich ter, who was In the buggy with him, escaped with his life. The train, which was moving at a terrific speed, struck one of the back wheels of the buggy and carried Mr. Hackett with it for a distance of about 50 yards, his body being terribly mangled.?Record.
