A HOUSE WARMING AT THE NEW HOSPITAL Thursday Afternoon the Building Will be Thrown Open und Everybody is Invited to Look Through it. MlBses Irby and MacFarlane have about completed the arrangements in the new Laurens Hospitiil and every thing is in shape to begin work. In fact, the hospital received its first pa tient several weeks ago. In order to get the city thoroughly InteroBter in the work and to show them what can bo done. Misses Irby and MacFarlane have invited everybody in the county to visit the hospital Thurs day afternoon und look through it. Although Thursday afternoon has been set apart for this, any one who is un able to visit it then will bo welcomed at any time to visit it and be carried through. Everything has been put in place ex cept the instruments for the operat ing room and these nave not arrived yet. It is hoped by Miss Irby and Miss MacFarlane that they will be here at an early date. Mr. Iteid Out Again. The many friends of Mr. Clarence Reld, who was painfully injured by the accidental discharge of his pistol several weeks ago, were glad to see him on the streets again Monday morning. Although the wound has not completely healed yet. he is able to be about somewhat. The bullet has not yet been located. It is very probable that it will be allowed to remain in his leg as no permanent Injury is like ly to result from it. Whooping cough is not dangerous when the cough is kept Loose and ex pectoration easy by giving Chamber lain's Cough Remedy. It has been used in many epidemics of this disease with perfect success. For sale by all deal ers. *************** * * * Jones News* * * * *************** Jones, S. C, June 19.?We recently had the pleasure of meeting Prof. R. E. Grier of Due West, who taught the Jones school a few years ago. The Woodmen picnic at Ware Shoals was a very pleasant occasion. Dr. Jones presided. Rev. .1. M. Dallas opened with prayer and Col. Wharton and Mr, Powers delivered elegant and Instructive addresses. The camp is in a very nourishing condition. Rev. Henry Stokes of Greenwood was here recently in tse interest of Columbia College. Our good friend Mr. Alfred McNinch was here last week. Rev. J. W. Duzhardt, of Hodges, preached a good sermon here on last Sunday. We extend congratulations to Mr. Marshall Golden and Miss Kirkland of Honea Path, who were recently married. Mr. John Simms of Waterloo is vis iting her daughter, Mrs. W. T. Jones, Jr. Messrs. J. R. Hlake of Abbeville and Clarence Williamson of Donalds, re cently honored us with a short, but pleasant call. Born, 16th inst.. to Mi. and Mrs. W. T. Jones, Jr., a son. Undo Dock Owens of Greenwood is visiting relatives and friends here. He was reared here and is liked by all of our people. He is one of the best friends the writer has ever had and wo trust he may be spared many years. Mrs. Jeff Jones is gradually recov ering from a very severe illness. Mrs. Mary South recently visited her daughter, Mrs. I. N. Cooper. Mr. Joe M. Oulla lost his barn and crib by lire Saturday morning, 1 a. m. His wheat and oat crop was burned and his friends sympathize with him. After a long and painful illness, Mr. Berry E. Knight passed away on 16th inst., and was laid to rest on the fol lowing day at Harmony in the pres ^ence of sorrowing relatives and friends. He was an ex-Confederate, a staunch patriot, loyal friend, affec tionate father, and was held in high esteem by all of his acquaintances. He was our warm friend and we ten derly sympathize with his bereaved family. Brewerton Lodge A. F. M., will con fer the M. M. Degree on 4th Saturday 24th inst., at 2 p. m. Messrs. Erskine and Dugan of Honea Path were here recently. Our Sunday School is progressing nicely and everybody Is invited to at tend. Messrs.
