All that we have to say is that we hope that they will get U> gether to do something for the town. Rip Van Winkle was presented at the Opera House last night. He awoke after a time. Lets see if we can't follow suit. ? ? m AGRICULTURE IN THE SCHOOLS. We would direct the attention of ' the readers of this paper to the let- j ter written from Winthrop College. It contains a very interesting Item on th< Agricultural Course being given there and which Is also being given at the University. This course is In tended to equip the teachers that go out from these two institutions with the fundamental ideas of plant growth, so that they will be able to impart their knowledge to the scholars all over the Slate and Cms rurther the cause of modern agricultural advance ment. Perhaps no course given at Winthrop will return so much In ac tual valuation to the people of the State. When all of the colleges of the State add this course to their cur- ; riculum and all the teachers of the State are enabled to give this course I:i the rural and town schools, a great step will have been made toward ma terial advancement, it Is our hop? that within a very few years every common school In the State will have such a department among Its studies. B Humbert surveyed a new road, last week, between Owlngs and Durbin Creek Church. When graded it will be of great benefit to the church and community. Lowe, rural policeman, arrested a negro Thad Lewis, in Wa terloo township last Tuesday and lodg ed him in the calaboose here. Lewis was wanted in Greenwood couuty on the charge of assault with intent to Mil. The deputy sheriff of Greenwood county came for him Wednesday. Mrs. J. B. Rasor and little,daught er of Greenville, are visiting relatives in town. Mrs. S. D. Austin spent part of last week with relatives in Clinton. Rev. G. M. Hollingsworth preach ed for the Presbyterians of La Grange. Georgia, last Sabbath and Rev. Mr. Pritchett, of the Columbia Theological seminary, preached for his people here Mr. Hollingsworth will visit his home people at Llchonta, Georgia, while he Is away. DuBose, accompanied by his wife and litfl > sons, visited friends at Gray Court last week. Miss Maude Machen has returned home after an extended visit to rela tives in Fountain Inn. Mr. John Medlock died last Tuesday morning at twelvi o'clock. His death was* caused by a kick from a horse, which he received Monday morning.
