HOW THE VOTES FELL
IN FIRST ELECTION
Twenty-Seven Boxes Re
ported Last Night.
SOME CLOSE CONTESTS

for Treasurer und Possibly One
en Legislative Ticket?
The Advertiser this morning pre
sents returns from twenty seven out
of thirty two boxes, with ;i total of
2,750 votes, as a result of yesterday's
election in Laurens for county and
State officers. The live boxes missing
are Shiloh, Woodvillo, Cook's store,
Stewart's store and Pleasant Mound.
These precincts, it is estimated, have
polled about three hundred votes
which will push tile total for the
county a little past three thousand,
one hundred votes.
The heavy rains during the morn
ing doubtless prevented quite a good
many from voting at ail. as the vot
ing strength of the county is probably
something like 3,400. So far as re
ported the election passed quietly.
Ac-cording to the table given in an
other part of the paper. Dr. .1. 11. Mil
ler lends the legislative ticket with
the handsome vote of 1. 80S, and is
of course elected. Mr. 1 rby comes
second with 1,438 and will probably
go in OU the first ballot. For the
third place Messrs Willis, P.oyd and
Rlchey are running pretty close to
gether in the order named.
'Hie indications are that Messrs
Mock and Young will run a second
race for county treasurer.
County Supt. of Education G. L. Pitts
?was reelectOd, defeating Mr. .1. C.
Burdette by several hundred votes.
This means that Mr. Pitts will be at
the head of Laurens county school
affairs for the next, four years, the
two-year term having been changed
to four years at the last session of
The general assembly.
The three candidates for county
commissioner are running in a bunch
and it will probably require the full
vote to determine the result.
County Auditor \V. T. Dor roh, Pro
bate Judge O. G. Thompson and Suiter
visor ll. ?. Humbert were reelected
without opposition.

gress in spile of Tom Watson's oppo

ber of Commerce decided yesterday
that this would bo the better time,
and has notified the other cities, who,
it is not though will have tiny ob

The trip over the different roar s
will take at ba t four or live days,
and the committee ou selecting the
best road will ge; right down to bus
iness and cannor stop at every place
for a reception and good roads cam
paign. The committee wants to go
from this place to Union and to New
berry via Whitmire. Returning to
this city by way of ('toss Anchor and
Woodruff. Another trip will also
have to bo made which will take In
the city of I.aureus and hear their
