Y. court makes report I in boyd-brock case Assistant Adjutant General Exonerated Charge of Criminal Intent hat "Careless ami Extravagant." Columbia, Juno it. -Col. \V. T. Brock, assistant adjutant general ol South Carolina, and candidate for the position of adjutant general in the approaching primary. Is absolved Of lite ?b?rge of swating (he state's money with criminal intent, but the court of Inquiry which made Its re. port at I 1 o'clock this evening, buds thai there were some things for which Col. Crock was to blame and some things which a lack of system in the otlice of the adjutant and in spector general made possible. The court says in its report: "li the charge is intended to im ply criminal intent, the court holds and linds tin.I the evidence fails to disclose any criminal intent on the part of Col. Condemning the system of account ing in VOgUC in conneclio with the turning in of expense accounts the court says: "This system of accounting the court condemns in no uncertain terms for the reason that whether so intended or not it is rendering false accounts; it affords no correct information to the officer whose duty it is to scruti nize the accounts; it offers no protec tion to the person whose accounts are to be scrutinized at a time possibly when he is not in position to explain, and i: such system is allowed to obtain in the State government it will as surely lead to petit thievery as the night follows the day. This court, how ever, does not charge Col. Brock with le t it thievery." The court exonerated Col. Crock from the so-called political Charges. In this connection the court says, in part : "We lind, as a matter of fact, that so far as he learned the situation. Colonel Brock reported It correctly to Gen. Boyd, and this court is of the opinion that there is no foundation in tact tor Hie charges made against Col. Brock by General Boyd in respect to any misrepresentation. We also lind, as a matter of fact, there is no fact up on which to base a charge against Cid. Crock, that he has proved a traitor to General Boyd. On the contrary this court is of oplon from the testimony that at all times Col. Brock has been entirely loyal to his superior and that the charges of the adjutant general to the contrary are entirely groundless." History of fnse. Several weeks ago Adjt. Gen. Boyd announced that be would not offer for reelection. Following this an nouncement W. T. Brock, the assist nnl adjutant general, announced bis intention of entering the race for ad jutant general. For several days there was noth ing said concerning the situation in the adjutant general's ofllce. Gen. Boyd went to Charleston and Ornge burg. When be returned he was very bitter toward Col. Brock and issued a statement to the press in which be charged thai his Assistant !>:>.'! acted as a political traitor. When the flrsi statement was I sued Col. Brock was making the annual in spection of the state militia, lie Im mediately directed a letter to Gov. Ansel, asking that he appoint a court of Inquiry to investigate the charges of Adjt. Gen, Boyd. QOV, Ansel took the matter under advisement and did not appoint the court at that time. While Gov, Ansel was considering the matter of appointing a court of Inquiry, Adjt. Hen. Boyd went to him with a statement as to the Itemized expense account of Col. Brock. Cater Ge i. Bo/d issued a statement, in which ho Charged Col. Brook with wasting the money of the State while making the annual inspections of the Rtnte militia during the past four years. Several other charges were made in the letter. Ceti. Boyd in an unofficial way called upon Gov. An sel to appoint a court of Injulry to Investigate the expense accounts of Col. Brock. Again Gov. Ansel took this charge under advisement in an unofficial way. In the meantime Col. Brock com. pleted the Inspections of the State militia and returned to Columbia. Be fore Gen. Boyd made public his charg es, Col. Brock went to (i<>v. Ansel and asked If a paper had not been filed with him by Gen. Boyd. Gov. Ansel explain ed the charges of Gen. Boyd as to the expense nCCOUUt. To Gov. Ansel Col. Crock gave a satisfactory explanation. When the charge of wnistlng the State's money was made public by Gen. Boyd, Col. Brock Went to Gov. Ansel and insb-t? ,1 Upon a thorough investigation of his entire record as assistant adjutant and inspector gen eral of the State. Gov. Ansel, alter Iking the matter under advist inent for some time, ap pointed the court of Inquiry, At the hearing before the court of Inquiry, which was appointed to get the facts in the case, many matters of interest were developed. To the Kditor of The Advertiser: It has came to my ears today that a wide-spread rumor is circulating in the city to lie effect that the people who are conducting evangelistic ser vices in the tent in your city repre sent one of the many Molllnoss bands. As the evangelist in charge of these meetings I want to correc t tins rumor. This tent meeting is being run in the interest of the Church Of Christ, or Christian church. The members ot which are called disciples of Christ, and the evangelists in charge are both members of this church, This church Is one of the- hading churches in the United States, numbering more than one and one half million members, having some of the lending colleges and educational institutions in the country, aid whose per cent of in crease last year was five times the per cent of the increase of the population of the United States. Our ministers and churches are rec ognized and respected by other church es and universities wherever we are known. Resolutions of llio Pastor's Aid Society? On Monday morning, May IGtll, 1910, our hearts were inndo sad when our beloved friend and co-worker, Mrs. Laura Irby Joucb, was culled from earth to henven. Our Father Juis taken unto Himself one of our most eillciont members, whoso beautiful and useful lifo and loyalty to duty endeared her to all. Her unremitting zeal in tho church, in tho society ami in tin- Sun day school was a beautiful example and stimulus to us all.
