Waring of Charleston for the Democratic; nomination for vice pres ident, as urged in the letter of "Faith ful Democrat" which we print today, in character, ability and attainments Mr. Waring is better equipped for the Sfftce than the candidates whom the Democrats ha been in the habit of Hitting forwa , he would prove in jvery way an admirable candidate and If Southern Democrats are to have representation on national tickets they jould not do better than by supporting aim. If South Carolina Is at any time to tiavo a place on the tickot, she can ;et it only by energetically backing l man who would measure fully to the lomands of the office, Mr. Waring vould fill the bill. When the pardon record of Gov. Ansel Is critically examined, his ac tion is the cases of Dr. Lee and Mrs. 'arson will offset all the refusals of minor cases with which he Is cred ited, and in which strong personal and political influence, such as was exor cised in these cases, svas not brought lo bear. To the Editor of The Advertiser: I have noticed the mention of the name of Mr. Thomas R. Waring of Charleston in connection with the democratic nomination lor the vice presidency. I have not been able to determine whether the writers were in earnest or not. However that may be I desire to second the nomination of Mr. Waring for that ?reat ofnee in all seriousness. I have known all of the governors, senators and other public men in South Carolina since 1876 more or less we ll. With full consciousness of what I am saying, none of them lias been Mr. Waring'a superior in broad states manship, wide information, general sympathies and complete and well rounded capabilities. I believe that no South Carolinian could be selected who would IUI the office of vice presi dent of the United States more grace fully, more efficiently, and witli more credit to his state and his party. 1 believe Mr. Waring would be a worthy and comparable successor to South Carolina's only other represent ative in the vice-presidency?violin C. Cnlhoun. Enough said. Such recognition is South Carolina's due for her continuous unfaltering and unrequited fealty to the Democrat ic party. Let us insist upon Mr. Thomas R. Waring's nomination to that office. "Faithful Democrat."
