Mrs Ellza b* tli wife of Mr. Richard Grlflln died Saturday night and was buried Sun duy at four o'clock at Bethabara. She leaves ;> husband three sons and three daughters. Mrs. Grlfflu was a sister , Ol Rev. W. I'. Turner and Messrs ; John, Robertson, and a. L. Turner. A large concourse of relatives and friends attended the funeral. Rev. and Mrs. N. J. Holmes were bere Saturday en route to Clinton. Mr. Holmes conducted a service at the home of Mr. Tom Hill Friday even ing. Mr. S. R. Wasson and his bride vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wasson last Thursday. Rev. Mr. Jamison superintendent of Connie Maxwell orphanage was in .'?oss Hill Saturday. Fuller's residence on Friday evening was enjoyed by a largo gathering of friends of her pupils. The lower floor of this octagonal home was en suite in seat the auditors, while the piano and the performers were in the centre; there are few homes In Lau ren;; better suited for entertainments of the kind. The program, as rendered embrac ed the following: Chorus, "Girls of Servllle," by the class. Vocal solo. "Harden of Roses." Miss Jessie liolt; a sweet ballad rendered with excellent taste. Miss Bolt is already widely known as an Instru mental performer of rare skill and this glimpse of another talent was a delight to her many admirers. Miss Wlllou Oray sang: (a) "In Old Madrid"; lb) "Hedge Roses.". Both showed careful study and good ex pression. Reading by Mrs. J. 11. Tengue. This as well as a succeeding number by Mrs. TeagUO was in a linht or hum orous vein and delighted every one. Mrs. II. K. Alken sang: (a) "Metra Serenado"; <i>> "Good night Little Girl." which were contrasting num bers in lino voice of even quality with a range of two octaves. Miss Emily B. Meng's solos were: (tit "Rose Song"; <b> "I Love You Truly". These were characterized by good cnum lution and sung in an easy, natural style that was very pleasing. Reading, Mrs. J, H. Teague. Miss Mary Todd sang: (ai ?Swal lows": (b> "Hod give Thee Sleep." in a high soprano voice of rich quality. Mrs. Alken sang: (a! "Roses. Every where"; (b) "My Aln Folk." Mrs. Alkcn's voice has delighted audiences before but the melody of this simple Scotch air went straight to the hearts of her beaters and she has seldom BUUg with liner effect. Miss Josephine Fuller's solos were: (a) "Angels serenade"; tbi "Sum mer." Miss Fuller has a beautiful soprano and sang both these more dlfllcull numbers in a brilliant man ner. During the winter she will con tinue the study of voice in Baltimore, Trio; "Twilight," by the class. Mrs. Turner as an instructor and accompanyist is thorough and accur ate and all who were favored with an Invitation for this occasion, could un derstand the progress and Improve ment all her pupils exhibited. After six weeks in N'ew York she will con tinue her clnsses here. ooo On Thursday afternoon Miss Rosalie Franks was at home to the members of the Mysterious Twenty-two club at her home on South Harper street, in a most enjoyable entertainment. The young ladies were requested to "bring their sewing alohg." and the after noon was spent most profitably and pleasantly. Miss Franks is a charm ing hostess, and her guests enjoyed her hospitality to the full. During the afternoon a salad course with coffee and fruits were served. Those present were; Misses Willie Mae Childless. Annie and Elizabeth Rlchey, Zolene Cray, Lynt Jones, ('?race Simmons, Elizabeth Shell, Nell Miller and Mrs. S. E. Money. Notice.
