She taught several years In this county and made quite a reputation us a teacher. Misses Gertrude Wright and Lola Todd left last Thursday for Charles ton, where in the Roper hospital they will take a course in trained nursing. Sullivans School district No. 4, Italian school, will vote for a tour mill special school (ax on June 12th. Dials No. 7. Dial's school, will vole for a two mill BChool tax on the IOtll of June. Miss I'essle lluclgcns has been elected principal of the Trinity Ridge BChol. The two assistants have not yet been secured. The Friendship school, taught by Miss Maggie GnrlingtOU, (dosed a very successful year last Friday. Miss Garlhlgton is now at home in Colum bia. She lias been re-elected at Friendship. The Wade school, taught by Miss Lucy Hill. Closed with a picnic last Friday. Several speakers were pres ent, and an excellent barbecue dinner was given by the patrons of the school. Cray Court. Waterloo. Greell Pond and Shllol) have all voted (he high school Within (he last month. Oth ers will be voted soon. Mrs. S. F. Honey returned Friday from Alken. Postmaster Ceo. s. McCravy re turned Saturday from the Columbia hospital, much improved in health. Mr. McCravy underwent an operation at the hospital some time ago. and it is believed that he is now on the rapid road to recovery. Mr. Thos. Ib Drown, one of the COUnty'8 progressive farmers, is at the Columbia hospital this week for surgical treatment. The character of bis ailment, however, is not of a serious nature, and he will be able to return in a week or ten days. i Mr. .1. Cope Henderson returned Sunday from Columbia where he spent several days visiting his father who is at the Columbia hospital. Mrs. .1. C. Phil pot of Columbia is visiting her mother. Mrs. G. F. Little, ? near Sandy Springs. Mr. J. F. Phil pot und son. Master Nash Philpot, returned Monday from Charleston where on Sunday they at tended the- marriage of Mr. Philpot's brother, Mr. Perry M. Philpot. to Miss Nettie Lyon, daughter of the Rev, Mr. -yon. The groom is a son of ('apt. .1. M. Philpot of this c ity and belongs to the Pili ted States navy, his present assignment being at the Charleston Navy Yard. Mr. Jno. Wright will move in a few lays into the newly-renovated house belonging to Mr. w. l. Gray on i liest.on street, next door to the FCIohelbergers. Mr. Win. Solomons, the jeweler who is to open an establishment here in the Darksdale building, arrived with his family Monday afternoon. On Tuesday of next week Mrs. Honey and Miss Sav age will go to Greenville to attend the commencements In that city, ooo On last Friday afternoon Mrs. T. I). Darlington was the charming hostess to a number of her friends in honor of her guests. Miss Lucy Darlington of Allendale and Miss Li/.xie Glenn of Newherry. The guests were received, and en tertained OII the long cool veranda where nine tables were arranged for the game of progressive nations. Many interesting and exciting games were played, after which it was found that Mrs. M. L. Copeland had scored the highest ami was awarded by the hostess a lovely bouquet of sweet peas tied with white satin ribbon. On arriving the guests were served delicious punch by little Misses Clau dia ami Lucy Vance, the handsome daughters of Mrs. Darlington. Rev. ('has. P. Rankin, pastor of the bride, perform ing the ceremony. No cards were is sued, consequently only members of the immediate families were present. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Clifton Jones, on South Harper Btreet, immediately after which the party went to the home of the groom's mother, a few miles from the city, where they were tendered a reception. Mr. ami Mrs. Hellams will make their home about three miles from I.aureus, he being a most successful planter. Mrs. Hellams. as Miss Sulli van, was quite popular in Laurens, where she enjoyed the friendship and esteem of a large number of friends and acquaintances who wish her all happiness in her wedded life. ooo Cards of invitation have been re ceived in Laurens to the marriage of Miss Emma Blakely and the Rev.
