arrived here last week and uro at

Stewart are also with Mr. and Mrs.
Hall. Mr. Stewart has recently a -
cepted a responsible position with the
Religious Press Advertising Syndicate.
Miws Marye Lanford and Mr. B. P.
Adair of this place drove to Laurens
last Sunday afternoon and were mar
ried by the Rev. Mr. ('rout. They re
turned here hnmedtatly and enjoyed
an elegant supper at the home of the
bride's parents. They will make their
homo with Mr. and Mrn. Lanford for
the present. Mr. Adair is a salesman
for the Cooper Trading Co.
Another wedding celebrated last
week was that of Miss Juliet Fowler
and Mr. Oliver Shenlley. They were
married at noon and left for Little
Mountain where they visited the
groom's parents. Mr. Shenlley ia in
the employ of the Seaboard Air Line
Railway hero.

death occured hero Saturday after
noon. Mr. James Coleinan of Groen
wood catne over Thursday to visit his
relations. Mr. M. M. Tcague's family. ,
He appeared to enjoy his usual jvood
health up to early Saturday morning
when he was attacked with apoplexy,
from which attack he never recovered
consciousness, lie died about one
o'clock In the afternoon. His six
surviving children readied him an
hour after his death. His remains
were carried early Sunday morn
ing to Coronnca for burial. He was
in his N'ith. year and al the lime of
Iiis bri i illness and death was at
the homo of Mr. J. M. Simmons.
Mr. Colemna was a nntixt of this
county having been born and reared
near .Mountville.
in his younger days ho had taught
school. He married Miss Teague, a
sister of Mr. M. M. Teague, of this
place. The deceased leaves many re
latives In this and Greenwood coun
ties who have the sympathy of a host
of friends.
Many friends synipati/c with little
Marie Teague, daughtr of Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur TagUO, who has been in ill
health for a year or more. She will
leave this week for Baltimore, as it in
thought best to carry her to the hos
pital there for treatment.
Mrs. Jennie Hamilton of LOkom spent
last week with her sister. Mrs. Ellen
Culberl 'in. she was accompanied
by her little Jack.
Mr. 1>. i\ Crisp, who has been serv
ing as operator at Blaney. has given
up the work at that place and has
gone to Abbeville to accept similar
work. He spent a few days with his
home folks here before going to his
new place.
Mr. J. Dennis Culbertson and family
of Maddens spent Sunday with Mr. \V.
P. Culbertson.
Mrs. Jesse Hryson who has been
quite sick is improving.

was Bttddened on the 28th of Decem
ber when Eleanor Gertrude Heeks,
wife of W. B. Beeks, passed away.
She had been sick only a short
while, and death came as a shock to
all her friends. On the 30tll her re
mains were carried to Mullins, S. C.
her former home, for interment. The
funeral services were held at Mullins
church, where she was a member. a
huge concourse of sorrowing friends
were present as a testimonial of tho
esteem in which she was held. She
was a Miss Lewis, daughter of a C.
Lewis, and Is survived by hor parents,
four brothers and three sisters. The
deceased had many noble qualities.
As a wife she was faithful, as a
friend, true to know her was to love
her. Yes, 'tis true, tiortrude is
gone but not frogotten. Her memory
til lives. We had known her just
one year?was married on the :ilst of
Dee., 1008; died 28tll of Dec. 190S.
She was burled on the ;tlst of Dee.
1908. She bore her afflictions with
patience, never murmuring or com
plaining
Our sympathies go out to the hus
band and family in their sore bereav
ment and we commend them to
Him, our Heavenly Father, who docs
all things well. She can never come
back to us but we can go to her.

Exceeded $10,000 for Past Year?Error
in Itecent Statement?
In the correspondence to the daily
papers the figures for tho Laurent
postofllce receipts were given as be
low $10,000 for tho year just closed.
President II. K. Alken, of the Cham
ber of Commerce, states that such is
nn error, und that the receipts are
well over the $10,000 mark; in conse
quence of which Laurens is entitled
to free city delivery.
Dr. Alkon has written Congressman
Johnson, apprising him of ihn above
fact and solicited bis aid In (securing
city delivery for Laurens. In all
likelihood the matter will be taken up
and disposed of during the present
session of Congress.
The government Inspcctoi of post
offlce sites is now in South Carolina
upon his rounds. He is expected in
Laurens at almost any time now to
select a site for the new poslOfliCO,
from the several bids entered.
The Nelson Bankrupt Sale.
On last Saturday the furniture, fix
tures and slock of goods belonging to
Mrs. s. L. Nelson, adjudged bankrupt,
were sold by Mr. C. W. Tune, trustee

Capt. Thomas Duckett, who last week
retired from tho oflico of Sheriff, has
moved to Clinton with his family. As
an officer and citizen Capt, Duckett
will be missed in Laurens. and the large
circle of his pood wife's friends regret
their removal from the city. Their de
parture from Laurens is also n distinct
loss to the Firflt Baptist church upon
whose servico both were constant atten
dants and generous supporters of every
cause.
