HARD TIMES L'OJIINU Waterloo Correspondent is not a Croaker But Thinks Hard Times Arc Coining. Waterloo, Sept. 11. Prof. W. S. Wcrtz of Johnston is the guest of friends in Waterloo. Our farmers are very busy now gath ing their crops. The corn cron in this section is almost a failure. All tho bot tom corn was washed away. The cot ton crop is also short, not more than 65 per cent, of a crop being made Wo have all heard of "money panic," "hard times," "poor luck," and all that kind of stuff, but the real genuine article will come this time. We try to be op timistic in our views, in spite of tho gloomy situation, but things certainly look "tight" to us. Mr. Ernest Miller of Greenwood coun ty was a Waterloo visitor last Sunday. Miss Ida Mae Wharton is visiting tie family of her brother, Mr. ('. C. Whar ton, in Greenwood. Mrs. E. E. Smith and Children have returned to Columbia aftee an extended visit to relatives in tin- Fork section. Mr. and Mrs. T. .1. Alverson the week end in Clinton. Mrs. J. II. Wharton is visiting daughter, Mrs. Alon/.a Keller, in On n wood. Miss Minnie Toaguo is visiting her sister, Mrs. W. A. Davis, in Columbia, Work is progressing nicely on Ilm Ivy Bluff bridge and the indications are that the work will he completed in about two weeks. The people in tin Kork section cross the river now in a. boat. Mrs. Johah Bourne, who has been spending some timo with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. O. I.. Durant, returned Sunday to her home in Georgetown. Mr. I,. I). Henderson is at home from a business trip to Macon and An Mr. Marvin Anderson of Cross Hill spent Sunday in town.
