Waterloo, Sept. 11. Prof. W. S.
Wcrtz of Johnston is the guest of
friends in Waterloo.
Our farmers are very busy now gath
ing their crops. The corn cron in this
section is almost a failure. All tho bot
tom corn was washed away. The cot
ton crop is also short, not more than 65
per cent, of a crop being made Wo
have all heard of "money panic," "hard
times," "poor luck," and all that kind
of stuff, but the real genuine article
will come this time. We try to be op
timistic in our views, in spite of tho
gloomy situation, but things certainly
look "tight" to us.
Mr. Ernest Miller of Greenwood coun
ty was a Waterloo visitor last Sunday.

Mrs. E. E. Smith and Children have
returned to Columbia aftee an extended
