the two Democratic clubs of the city,
presided over the proceedings, Col.

lin e ting was featureless, unless the
hearty applause accorded some of the
candidates may so he termed; close at
tention and absence of rowdyism might
also bo noted as marking the events of
the day.
A Hacks upon The 1 .aureus Advertiser
were made by Messrs. Cannon and lrby

Mr. Cannon attacked Mr. Wharton's

man "to Wear the (lagof prohibition."
Mr. Wharton devoted more time to the
iii mission of the tax question than to
:m,\ other, contending that it was more
important and should bo the subject of
earnest though! and wise action on the
part of a representative than the ques
tion of whiskey. The candidates for
the House? of Representatives made
practically the same speeches as hav<
heell previously reported, only they
were all more enthusiastic, inspired
doubtless by the largo and attentive
crowd of voters.
