EVENTS OP A WENK AHOUND MADDEN Death of Dr. (imlfrcy Deeply Regretted. Successful Revival Meeting At Prospect. Madden, August 18th. The revival meeting closed at Prospect with the addition of 17 members. Much interest was manifested and we hope great and lasting good was done. The candidates will be baptized next 4th Sunday. Mrs. Clyde Martin is spending a month with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. .J. U. Finley, hoping the change will prove beneficial to the little habe, which seems to be somewhat improved. Misses A/.ile and Myra Wofford left Wednesday for a short stay with rela tives at Woodruir. Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Teague spent last Sunday with Mr. Will Teague, of the Beaverdam section. Mr. W. F. Cunningham, of Kinards, paid us a Hying visit last Thursday. He was accompanied by bis sister, Mrs. M. T. Allison, and Lhey visited relatives at Cold Point Thursday night. He "smole a smile" when he told us that he was now "grandpa." [)r. Culbcrtson and wife, of Georgia, have been the guests of Mrs. .J. I). Culbortson. Master Ryan Martin is enjoying a ten days' outing at Stomp Springs. Dr. U. W. Cunningham left last Fri day for Ithaca, N. V., where he will BI)Cnd one month perusing the library. l<rom there he goes to Vermont to as sume bis duties in Middlobury College. His ninny friends and relatives wish him abundant success in his "far away" home. Miss Josic Martin is spending a while with her grandmother and other rela tives. Dr. H. I''. Codfrey was well known in this community and his many friends were shocked to hear of his tragic death, especially do we sympathize with bis young wife and aged mother. Miss Ethel Dry son left last week for; a short stay with relatives at Cross Hill. She will go from there toUSSUmo] her duties as I rained nurse in a saniln- ' rium in Columbia. Mrs. Simpson Bailey, who has been visiting her mother. Mrs. Ettio Cun ningham, has returned to her home In I Union county, near Sedalia. J, Lnngslon seems to enjoy "scursions" as ho "took in" both the Charleston and Ashevlllo. Mr:;. Mr. Edgar Burls, son of Mr. T. H. Hurts, and Miss Mattie Culbertson, daughter of Mr. L. C. Culbertson, all of the Ekom section, were united in marriage last Sunday. Minter & Uro., left Tuesday for New York to buy fall goods for his house. Messrs. W. H. Anderson and Chas. W. Taylor, popular salesmen with Davis, Roper Company, the former one of the buyers for Davis, Roper Co., are I in New York this week, they having | left for the Metropolis last Saturday. Mr. J. Willis Eichelberger, accom panied by Dr. Jesse H. Teague, has gone to Baltimore for special treatment. Miss Eunice Riddle, after a few days' stay with relatives at Cray Court, has returned home. Miss Hattie Riddle, of Augusta, is visiting her cousin, Miss Eunice Riddle. Col. \V. R. Darlington, of Allendale, is the guest of his son, Col. T. D. Dar lington. Mr. B. H. Notice of a Special Election To be bold in the School District of the Town of Laurens for the Purpose of Voting U|M)n the Question of Whether or Not the Hoard of Trustees of Said School District Shall Issue Bonds to the Amount oi Ten Thousand Dollars for the Purpose of Erecting a New Graded School Building in the Said School District. Notice is hereby given that an elec tion will be held in the School District of the Town of Laurens on Thursday, the 17th day of Sept., 1908, for the purpose of voting upon the question as to whether or not trie board of Trus tees in said School District shall issue bonds to the amount of Ten Thousand Dollars for the purpose of creeling a new Graded School building in said School District. The polls will be open at the Clerk's oflice, in the City Council Chamber in the City of Laurens, from !' o'clock in the forenoon until 1 o'clock in the af ternoon. At said election t.he residents of said School District, which embraces the corporate limits of the City of Laurens. who are duly qualified to vote under the constitution and laws of the State of South Carolina, shall be allowed to vote. Those voting in favor of the issuing of said bonds shall vote a written or printed ballot, upon which the words "for the issuing of bonds" are written or printed thereon, and those opposed to the issuing of said bonds shall vote a similar ballot, upon which the words "against the issurrir of bonds" are written or printed thereon.
