of Greenville.
At a meeting of the executive com
mittee of the Laurona County Baptist
association held at the First Baptist
church of this city plans were consid
ered for an educational campaign in he-1
half of Purman university and the
Greenvillo Female college. This com
mittee is Composed Of Rev. E. C. Wat
sot), Rev. J. A. Martin and Messrs. C.
B. Bobo, W. I?. Culhcrtson and W. 11.
Drummond. others who mot with the
commit lee were Rev. W. B. Thayer,
Rev. C. W. Salter and Messrs. Conway
Dial and F. L. Brandett.
It was decided at this meeting to
group the churches of the county into
six divisions and to hold an educational
rally in each division at some time dur
the first two weeks in September. A
sub-committco, composed of Messrs.
Culbortson, Thayer. Watson and Bobo,
WJ appointed to arrange dates and
programs for these meetings. Later
this committee held a meeting in Mr. J.
A. Clardy's ofllco and appointed dates,
places and speakers. They will at once
communicate with the speakers and se
cure the appointments.
Following is the report of the sub
committee to arrange dates and pro
grams :
The executive committee of Laurons
Baptist Association, at a meeting held
at Laurens July Bist, 1908, decided that
in view of the special effort now being
? made for the better equipment and per
manent endowment of Fur mail univer
sity and Greenvillo Female college, a
campaign of information in regard to
these institutions especially and Chris
tian education generally, should he con
ducted in this association during the
first two weeks in September. For this
purpose it wns.dcomcd proper to group
the several churches of the Associate n
into six divisions and hold an educa
tional rally :;t some point in each group.
A committee composed of \V. I'. Cul
bortson, E. C. Watson, w. B. Thayer
and 0. B. Bobo was appointed to ar
range dates, places and programs for
these meetings. Our Baptist people of
the churches in ? ach group are urged
to moot in mass, or at least hy large
representational the appointed places
in their respective groups. No collec
tion will he expected or asked for.
These meetings are purely educational
rallies in the interest of Christian edu
cation, with the special purpose of dis
seminating information to our Baptist
colleges. Therefore, we urge upoli our
pooplo tin' importance of attending
these moetillgs for their own benefit as
well as the inspiration and influence
they may contribute to the cause of
Christ ian development. Pastors and
other leaders are expected to make
special Olforts in securing large attend
ances and Otherwise rendering these
rallies successful. Those appointed to
conduct the meetings Will please ar
range for proper devotional and song
services in connect ion with the several
addresses.

One of the candidates for the exalted
office of governor of South Carolina,
who lias tried to show why ins opponent
should not he e'ected, has declared in
his own behalf that, should the people
of South Carolina wish to know any
thing of him, they might impure of the
ministers of Newherry.
Yesterday The State received without
solicitation, except by editorial invita
tion, the following card, coming with
out superscription to indicate when or
why the action of the ministers was
tak en:
"Inasmuch as letters of inquiry, re
ceived from different sections of the
State, reveal the fact that unwarranted
inferences as to the attitude of the
ministers of the town of Newherry are
being drawn from certain statement i
made publicly by Hon. Cole I.. Blouse
in his canvass for the ollice of gov
ernor, we deem it our duty to say that
we do not, directly or indirectly, en
dorse his candidacy.
