C AMP A10 X FOll THE U. F. 0. AND FU11MAN. Educational Ralliesjto be Held in Behalf of the Baptist Institute of Greenville. At n meeting of the executive com mittee of the Laurens County Baptist association held at the First Baptist church of this city plans were consid ered for an educational campaign in be half of Furman university and the Greenville Female college. This com mittee is composed of Rev. E. C. Wat son, Rev. J. A. Martin and Messrs. C. B. Robo, W. P. Culbertson and W. H. Drummond. Others who met with the committee were Rev. W. E. Thayer, Rev. C. W. Salter and Messrs. Conway Dial and F. L. Bramlett. It was decided at this meeting to group the churches of the county into six divisions and to hold an educational rally in each division at some time dur the first two weeks in September. A sub-committee, composed of Messrs. Culbertson, Thayer, Watson and Robo, was appointed to arrange dates and programs for these meetings. Later this committee held n meeting in Mr. J. A. Clardy's Ofiice and appointed dates, places and speakers. They will at once communicate with the speakers and se cure the appointments. Following is the report of the sub committee to arrange dates and pro grams: The executive committee of Laurens Baptist Association, at a meeting held at Laurens July 81st, 1908, decided that in view of the special effort now being ? made for the better equipment and per manent endowment of Furman univer sity and Greenville Female college, a campaign of information in regard to these institutions especially and Chris tian education generally, should be con ducted in this association during the first two weeks in September. For this purpose it was deemed proper to group the several churches of the Association into six divisions and bold an educa tional rally at some point in each group. A committee composed of W. I'. Cul bertson, E. C. Watson, W. E. Thayer and C. B. Robo was appointed to ar range dates, places and programs for these meetings. Our Baptist people of the churches in each group are urged to meet in mass, or at least by large representation at the appointed places in their respective groups. No collec tion will be expected or asked for. These meeting., are purely educational rallies in the interest of Christian edu cation, with the special purpose of dis seminating information to our Baptist colleges. Therefore, we urge upoh our people the importance of attending ? these meetings for their own benefit as well as the inspiration and influence they may contribute to the cause of Christian development. Pastors and other leaders are expected to make special efforts in securing large attend ances and otherwiso rendering these rallies successful. Those appointed to conduct the meetings will please ar range for proper devotional and song services in connection with the several addresses. One of the candidates for the exalted office of governor of South Carolina, who has tried to show why his opponent should not be elected, has declared in ins own behalf that, should the people of South Carolina wish to know any thing of him, they might inquire of the ministers of Newberry. Yesterday The State received without solicitation, except by editorial invita tion, the following card, coming with out superscription to indicate when or why the action of the ministers was taken: "Inasmuch as letters of inquiry, re ceived from different sections of the State, reveal the fact that unwarranted inferences as to the attitude of the ministers of the town of Newberry are being drawn from certain statements made publicly by Hon. Cole L. Bleaso in his canvass for the ollicc of gov ernor, we deem it our duty to say that wo do not, directly or indirectly, en dorse his candidacy.
