LAUKENS COUNTY
IS NOW INCLUDED
In the Systematic Work of Eradicating
the Tick.
The Clemson College trustees, co-op
erating with the United States Agricul
tural Department, are engaged in the
work of eradicating the cattle or Texas
fever tick in this State. Last year this
work was carried on in the counties of
Greenville, Anderson, Pickens and Oco
nee, the undertaking meeting: with en
couraging results.
Beginning on the first of July Dr. W.
A. Myers, representing the United
States Department of Agriculture, was
assigned to a new division, including
Laurens, Greenwood, Abbeville and
other counties. Dr. Myers is an expe
rienced veterinary and he will direct the
work in this division during the coming
year. In Laurens county Dr. Myers
will have the assistance of two special
agents, Messrs. Jas. M. Williams, of
Mountville, and G. C. McEachern, of
Greenville county. Dr. Myers and his
local men were in the city several days
last week organizing and arranging for
their campaign.
In the last issue of Tne Advertiser
appeared an article giving the scope
and bentfits of the tick eradication
work and today a "Notice to Cattle
Owners" is printed which should be
read by all our farmers.

AS OTHERS THINK.
Everyone in I.aureus Has a Right to His
Own Opinion.
While everyone has a right to his own
Opinion, yet it is wise to always con
sider what others think and profit by it.
Nothing makes life so miserable, or
interferes so widely with the usefulness
of the average American as indigestion,
and it is well for us to give fair consid
eration to what others think about this
remarkable affliction.
Laurens Drug Co. are positive that in
Mi-o-na stomach tablets the have an
absolute cure for indigestion and the
many disagreeable symptoms that fol
low this disease, such as distress after
eating, coated tongue, bad taste in the
mouth, dizziness, flatulence and nervous
ness.
Their action in selling Mi-o-na on a
guarantee to refund the money unless it
cures shows plainly their belief in the
value of this remedy.

THE TOWN OF CLINTON.
Dr. W. P. Jacobs Gives Interesting His
tory of Origin of Name.
The last issue of the Clinton Gazett .
contains an interesting; article from Dr.
W. P. Jacobs on the origin of tne name
Clinton. Dr. Jacobs says:
"In yours of last week I notice the
kindly reference to myself with the re
quest that I give the origin of the name
Clinton for this town. I have never
seen the following statement in print,
but I heard it in 1864, just after coming
to what was then the little town of
Clinton, and can only vouch for it as
traditional. It is said that there was
about 1852-3 a very strenuous discussion
as to the future name of the promising
little railroad town which was then the
terminus of the road and which was
showing signs of having considerable
vitality.
"One party advocated the name
'Round Jacket' in honor of one of its
citizens whose favorite habiliment was
of that class, while others advocated
the name of 'Five Points,' then notori
ous in connection with New York roughs
and toughs. The idea was that five
roads came together at this point nnd
hence the appropriateness of the desig
nation.
"At the height of this discussion,
however. Mr. Henry Clinton Young, of
Laurens, a man of high character, a
lawyer, much liked in this section of
the country and a gentleman whose life
and whose professions corresponded,
happened to pass by, when the sugges
tion was nade to name the town of
Clinton in his honor. It was heartily
seconded and carried and it was not
many years before the town itself
aspired to the ideal set by Mr. Henry
. Clinton Young, and is today known far
and wide for the straight-forward in
tegrity of its people. Mr. Young was
living in Laurens for a number of years
after I moved to this town. I knew
him well and believe that the statement
made as to the naming of the town is
the correct one.
"Thanking you for the Inquiry, I am,
"Very truly yours,
"W. P. JACOBS."
