A new lodge of Odd Follows, located at Watts Mills, was instituted here Sat urday night by '?>???. ,1 Secretary S. F. Killing8worth, of Columbia, assisted by Past Grand .Master .). F. Croshy, of Walhalla, and Special District Deputy Grand Master T. K. Hudgons, of Lau rens. Th? work was done in Calhoun Lodge, No. 17, members of the order from Clinton, Spartanburg and Union assisting in conferring the degrees. The new lodge was given the name of Laurens Lodge, No. 136, I.e. 0. F.. and the following officers wore duly elected, appointed and installed: W. M. Powell, Noble Grund; J, C. Crosby, Vice Grand; .I. D. P.arr.ll, Secretary; F. 13. Tomplelon, Treasurer; .1. C. Pen land; Outside Guardian; 0. A. Dickery, Inside Guardian; A. F. McDowell, Con ductor; Albert Hums. Warden; W. A. Kiddle, It. S. N. C; I". K. Taylor. K. S. V. G.; Walter Taylor, I.. S. V. C; .1. I1'. Murry, Chaplain. The lodge was organized with thirty-three charter members and its meetings will be la id every Friday night in the new Lodge Hall at the Watts Mill i village. Mr. Mahalfey was the old est man in Oconce county and perhaps in the State, he being in bis 113th year. He was a soldier in the Mexican war. He is survived by Ins wife and several children. Nash, of Mcrna, ad dressed the following card to the editor of The Greenville News under date June 23d: We note W. W. Lumpkin is out for United States senate and some of the editors in commenting on the colonel say he is very good on "old Confed erate" addresses, but that he is not at all generally known and think this very much against him. However this may be, we note and endorse one plank in the colonel's platform, viz: "An effort to get a bill through to control the ship ping in of whiskey to States that have voted down the handling of whiskey." It seems very unjust that a State should vote out whiskey and then have the imposition of being made to submit to all that can be shipped in. There should be a way to control this where there is the proper amount of will brought to bear. We also note and endorse one plaid; j in the platform of one of the candidates for the legislature in Laurcns county, viz: "That fair and just treatment of investors of capital in the borders of our State." It happens that we have appeared on this matter in very strong terms previously. While we endorse this much of his policies we can't say that we would en dor r his full platform if we are prop erly informed. We do not call any names in this case and however much we may differ on the main principles of his platform yet we heartily agree with him on this point and it is by no means j a small factor as we view it.
