Railway Companies Requested to Provide Additional Water Closet at Laurcns Lassender Station. ('., said depot being used by the C. & W. C. R. R. and the C, N. & L. R. R., we find that there is only one water closet in said depot, and that said closet is for the use of female passen gers. Therefore, it is ordered That the Charleston and Western Car olina R. R. Co. and the Columbia, New berry ann Laurens R. R. Co. do build two separate and distict water closets, one for female passengers and one for male passengers in their passenger sta tion at Laurens, S. For the last four years the .senator from I,aureus has steadily voted with tho prohibition forces in the sen ate. He is not a candidate for re-elec tion, and it is understood that both the candidates for senator from that county are dispensary men. If this be so Mr. Featherstone owes it to the cause of prohibition to take up tho fight in his county and save 1.aureus for prohihi S ion. A well informed politician says "the fighl is still in the senate. " Prohibition will gain a vote in Newberry, one in Marion and perhaps one in Lexington county and possibly loseonoin Laurens. The prohibitionists need to work for the control of the next senate and Mr. Featherstone should be the next sena tor from Laurens county thereby keep ing that county's vote in the senate on the side of prohibition. Hon. John J, McSwain, of Greenville, was chosen as grand representative u> the Sover eign Grand Lodge, which meets this year in Denver, Colorado. The new grand master, Dr. Neuffcr, of Abbeville, in making his committee appointments for another year, named Hon. F. P. McGowan as a member of the committee on constitution and by Jaws. The Singin Skulc Bcginmont. Under the auspices of the United United Daughters of the Confederacy and for the benefit of the monument fund the Singin Skulc Beginment, a one act comedy, was held at the opera house last Tuesday night. The per formance was witnessed by about the largest audience ever assembled in the city play house. And judging from the applause the play was passably enjoy able. Mrs. T. M, Billingsley, of Tennessee, under whose direction the work was done, is quite accomplished in this line, and she is herself a good actress. Her facial expressions woro especially good. As a whole the show was not very good, although many individual parts were well carried. Little Miss Theresa Schayer, as Angelina Turveydrop, was among the best, being a pretty dancer and having a good voice. Miss Qertrudo Wright as Charity Bumpkins was especially pleasing in her coon soons. Miss Rosalie Franks made an excellent bad girl, while Mr. Clus Simmons, whose costume was un usually striking, pleased the audience. There were many others wdio deserve equal praise. Miss Amelia Kennedy entertained the pupils of the ninth and tenth grades Friday afternoon. Mrs. Frank Taylor visited in Green wood last week. Miss Ida Taylor spent a few days in Augusta last week. Mr. Edgar W. Boyd, of Greenville, is in the city on business. Mr. Jesse V. Fuller, a well known game chicken fancier, shipped a dozen pit games to a party at Palmetto, Fla., last Friday. Mr. Fuller (ills a number of orders during each season and, of course, gets a fancy price for all birds thus sold. After a pleasant visit in Walterboro and to her aunt, Mrs. A. S. Withers, in Charleston, Mrs. Hugh K. Aiken and her little son have returned to their home in Laurens.?Charleston Post. The programme of the Winthrop college commencement has been issued and the name of the Rev. W. E. Thayer, of Laurens, appears to de liver the annual sermon before the Y. W. C. A. Mr. Thayer states that he has written and declined the invitation, or rather had withdrawn his acceptance on account of unavoid able circumstances. Mr. N. P. Hellams, of Gray Court, was in the city on business Friday. Mrs. H. K. Aiken, after an extended visit to relatives in Charleston, returned home Thursday afternoon. Misses Corrine Martin, of Greenville, and .lanie Murray, of Columbia, are the guests last week of Mrs. F. P. Mc Gowan. Mrs. W. II. Dial has returned from a visit to friends and relatives in Sumter. Mrs. Frank C. Briddell and daughter, Miss Marie, of Indiana, are here with her son, Mr. Jack Briddell, treasurer of the Paving Construction Company. These are excellent and charming peo ple and have already made numerous friends in Laurens. Prof. W. S. Hough, principal of the Cross Hill School, was in the city Sat urday. The Cross Hill School has just closed a successful session under the management of Prof. Hough, who has been elected to serve another year. Mr. Jas. A.
