THE COTTON ASSOCIATION. Call For Meetings of Township Clubs and County Association. The several Townships and sub-divis ions are notified to meet on Saturday, March 10th, at 3 o'clock p. m., and elected delegates to attend the meeting of the County Association which is hereby called to meet on Saturday, the 17th. It \a of the greatest importance that there be a full representation at this meeting. Lot every township send its quota, whether their organization has been perfected or not. It is essential to the best interests of this country that this organization be kept in thor ough working order. The question of acreage, of cotton-holding, and of ware house building will come up at this meeting. There are a great many peo ple who are convinced that farmers should build and own a warehouse. Then, there is the burning question of how much cotton shall be planted in 1906. Upon this and kindred questions must depend the fate of our country. Nash visited New Harmony and Ebenezer schools, located in Youngs township. New Harmony is taught by Miss Carrie Lou Dorroh, as sisted by Miss Pallie McKitrick of Greenville county, while Miss Myrtle Blankenship presides over Ebenezer. H. Irby. Mrs. Dora Irby, wife of Mr. James H. Irby, formerly of this city, died in Columbia Tuesday night, February 27th, after a brief illness. Mrs. Irby was Miss Dora E. Wages, and had been married for only a short time. SAXON'S NARROW ESCAPE. Runaway Team Crashed Into His Buggy Throwing Him Out. Mr. J. P. Saxon, of Huntington, had quite a narrow escape from possible serious if not fatal injuries, as the re sult of a runaway accident near Mr. T. J. Weather's last Friday. Mr, Saxon was on his way to the city driving a pair of spirited horses to a single buggy, followed by a wagon team. Just beyond Mr. Weather's the mules attached to the wagon became frightened and were on a wild run when they crashed into Mr. Saxon's buggy, almost demolishing the vehicle and throwing Mr. Saxon violently into the road. He managed to hold on to the lines, but was dragged a considerable distance by the horses in an effort to join in the race. Luckily for Mr. Saxon ho got off with only a few slight bruises about the knees and shoulders. The wagon team was soon stopped without doing further damage. Keep the little ones healthy and happy. Executive Committee Appointed. Mr. R W. Nash, County 'Superin tendent of Education, has appointed Messrs. M. C. Langston, Jared D. Sullivan and Thos. B. Childressas mem bers of the executive committee of the County Trustees' Association. This Committee will be expected to prepare a programme for the next meeting of the Association, which will be called by Mr. Nash, the president, sometime the last of this month. A3k your Druggist. DEATH OF AN INVENTOR. James M. Terry of Qreenville County Dies Suddenly. Mr. James M. Terry, of Greenville county, who was the inventor of the "Terry Cotton Planter," died suddenly of heart disease at a boarding house in Greenville last Tuesday night. Mr. Terry was a brother-in-law of Messrs. Y. C. Hellams, of this city, and Willis Hellams, of Barksdale. He was a large and successful farm er and an inventor of decided genius. Notice of County Treasurer. The County Treasurer's Books will be open for collection of State, County and Commutation Road Taxes for fiscal year 1904 at the Treasurer's Office, from October 16th to December 31st 1905. Those who prefer to do so can pay in January. 1906, with one per cent, addi tional; those who prefer paying in Feb ruary, 1906, can do so with 2 per cent, additional; those who prefer to pay in March, 1906 to the 15th of said month can do so by paying an additional 7 per cent. After said date the books will close. All persons owning property or pay ing taxes for others in more than one Township arc requested to call for re ceipts in each township in which they live. This is important, as additional cost and penalty may not be attached. Prompt attention will be given those who wish to pay their taxes through the mail by checks, money orders,, etc. Persons sending in lists of names to be taken off, are urged to send them early as the Treasurer is very busy during the month of December.
