DEATH AT CLINTON. Other News Items of More or Less In terest Noted. Clinton, Dec. 11th. ? Mr. R. L. Prather died at his home hero on Sat urday morning. He was stricken with paralysis several weeks ago and had never boen up since. The funeral ser-! vices were condncted on Sunday after noon at the Presbyterian Church of which ho was an elder. Mr. Prather was manager of the Orphanage farm and will be missed both in that and the Church. He leaves a wife and eight children, all of whom were at his bed side during his illness. Invitations have been received here to the marriage of Mr. Tom Leake and Miss Alleword Johnson of Paris, Texas, on December, the twentieth. Mrs. Dillard of Spartanburg has been with her sister, Mrs. Prather, for sev eral days. Mr. George Wilcox of Georgia was in town visiting some College friends on Saturday. Miss Agatha Davis has returned from a visit to Columbia. Dr. Adams, Rev. Sam Byrd and Dr. McPheeters were here, during the week past on business connected with the College. Dr. W. S. Bean made a short trip to Augusta recently. Mrs. Jack Young entertained a party of College boys and their friends on Saturday evening. Mrs. E. M. Jordan, Miss Ludie Jor dan and Mrs. E. N. Brooks are guests of Mrs. W. B. Owens. Mrs. R. B. Vance's home was the scene of much pleasure on Friday af ternoon from three to five o'clock, when the Actaeon Book Club and other guests enjoyed a number of spirited games. The color used in decora tions and refreshments were red, beau tiful vases of red carnations were placed on tables and mantels and the sweets was served in the carnations cup. Mrs. W. J. Bailey received the souvenir for the afternoon's game. Miss Addie Horton has returned from a delightful trip to Nashville and At lanta. Important to Teachers. . Don't forget that Dec. 15, 1905, is Library Day. Remember, also, that Libraries may be established or increased, from now until December 31, 1905. Be sure to attend the County Teach ers Association at the Court house next Saturday, Dec. 16th. Before this meeting adjourns we will elect a delegate from the lady members to the South Carolina Woman's Associa tion for the improvement of Rural schools, to be held at Winthrop College, Rock Hill, S. C, Dec. 29 to 30. The expenses of the delegate will be paid by the State. We hope every teacher in the county will be present at this meet ing, as this is the last meeting for the year 1905, and we are satisfied if you attend one meeting you will come often. R. W. C. 14?13t. Pension Notice. i Under the requirements of the law, 1 the Pension Commissioner, Capt. John M. Hudgens will be in the Auditor's office each Saturday in the month of January, ensuing, for the purpose of receiving new applications for pensions, and certifying to transfers to other counties. The Commissioner is charged with the duty of preparing all pension gapers in a condition to go before the 'runty Pension Board, which board meets first Monday in February, ensu ing at Laurens Court House, for the purpose of passing upon said applica tions. Old pensioners will report to the rep resentatives of their townships. The following is a list of township repre sentatives, viz: Laurens, Capt. J. M. Hudgens; Jacks, J. W. C. Bell; Hunter; J. E. Boyd; Dials, Dr. Culbertson; Scuffletown, J. P. Dillard; Sullivan, J. P. Ellegge; Cross Hill, P. H. Madden; Waterloo, J. P. Caldwell; Youngs, W. P. Coker. Each new applicant is requested to ap pear before the county board in person, unless shown by oath of a practicing physician to be unable to do so. Township representatives may secure blank applications for distribution, by calling on Capt. Hudgens. Each appli cation should be verified by two wit nesses. The applicant must make oath, if a man, that his gross income does not exceed $75 per annum; if a woman, that it does not exceed $100 per annbm. In consequence of so many useless applications being made, township rep resentatives should be careful to issue blanks to those only who in their judg ment are entitled to draw a pension. Township representatives will please make a correct list of those who have died since the last meeting of the board, without this information the board can not be sure their list is correct. At a meeting of the City Council Monday night the resignation of Mr. Albert Hughes, assistant chief of police was accepted, effective Friday, Dec. 15. Mr. L. R. Roper, who has been on the force several years, was promoted to the position resigned by Mr. Hughes. Mr. Hughes gives up his work here to which he has devoted many years of very faithful service, in order to move out on his farm near Enoree where he will engage in making fine corn and 12 cents cotton.
