McCullough, died at her home in the lower part of this county, Oct. 18th. She was the daughter of James Epps of Laurens county, and her mother was a Miss Sullivan, a sister of Mrs. K. J. McCul lough of this county and William D. Sullivan of Tumbling Shoals, Laurens county. She left surviving her one son, J. D. McCullough, and three daughters, Mrs. Mary Gambrell, the wife of Capers Gambrell, Greenwood; Miss Lucia Davis of Augusta and Miss Hattie McCullough. Her husband was the brother of John W. McCullough of this city. Her life was filled with good deeds and service to others.?Greenville News. LEAK Oray Court, S. C. DEATH OF MRS. QUARLES. At the Advanced Age of Ninety a Good Woman Goes to Her Reward. At the advanced age of 90, Mrs. Ag nes W. Quarles, widow of R. P. Quarles of Abbeville county, died at Tumbling Shoals, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. D. Sullivan, Thursday morn ing about 11 o'clock. The funeral and burial services, conducted by Rev. Mr. Brown, a Baptist minister of Due West, Mrs. Quarles former pastor at Abbeville, took place at Mt. Bethel, Friday afternoon. Mrs. Quarles had made her home at Tumbling Shoals for the last ten or twelve years. She was a member of the Baptist Church and her life was an exemplification of the highest and nob lest type of Christianity. She was be loved and revered by all who knew her. Besides Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. Quarles surviving children are Mrs. Sarah Gal phin of Ninety Six, Mrs. Sue Walker of Atlanta, and Messrs. J. W. Quarles of Columbia and Thos. P. Mrs. Lou Godfrey, wife of Mr. John Godfrey, died of paralysis at her home near Rabun Creek Church, Wednesday night, Oct. 18th. Her husband and two sons survive. Pitts and Miss Ernestine Pitts of Poplar Springs were in the city on Friday. Mr. B. G. Peterson of Maiming came up Friday and remained until Monday with his mother and other relatives. There was a big crowd in town on Saturday and the merchants had a busy day. The Chrysanthemum Fair?Laurena' gala occasion?opens a week from to morrow. Miss Pauline Evans of Columbia has been elected to teach the Sandy Springs school, Rev. W. A. M. Plaxco having resigned. Mr. Thos. E. Dean, the well known newspaper correspondent of Union was the guest o* Mr. L. B. Blackwell for several days during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Darlington, Mrs. R. Fleming Jones and Miss Lillian Irby will be the guests of friends in Colum bia this week. Mrs. J. E. Clary will spend a few days at the Fair and before returning will make a visit to her grand-parents, Dr. and Mrs. Wilson of Cheraw. Dr. and Mrs. H. K. Aiken will be among the Fair Week visitors. From Columbia Mrs. Aiken will go to Char leston, where she will spend a few weeks with relatives. The Fair will draw a fine attendance from Laurens as usual. Quite* a num ber of people will take in the social side of the Fair and spend the week with friends, while others will only make flying trips. Frightful Suffering Relieved. C, October 17. ?Un-.' dor bail with several indictments for misappropriation of the county funds hanging over him, former 'County Su pervisor J. E. Speegle, died of heart disease and Brtght's disease, at II o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter E. Hunt, on Westfield street. He was 46 years of age, and leaves his second wife and eight children. He will be buried to morrow at Springwood cemetery under tho auspices of the Odd Fellows and the Woodmen of tho World. He had not left his bed since his return from Hendersonville under arrest and for the past few days has been unconscious.
