Opening Ball at Harri? Springs. A large party from the oity attended tho opening bail at Harris Lithla Springs Friday evening. The Springs has a new management this season and the brilliant and largely attended event Friday evening was a oonsplouous suc cess. There worn large parties from the surrounding towns. A conference for Education will be held at Winthrop College, July 14, for the purpose of discussing the defects and noeds of our Public School system, and to devise plans for its betterment. Moore. Tho many friends of Mm. Corrio Mooro, wifo of Mr. W. A. Moore, will rogro'i to hoar of hor do&th which oc curred at Watts Mills last Saturday after a brief Illness. She was the eld est daughter of Mr. Wallace Sanders of this county. Her husband and three small children survive. The birial took took place at the city comotery Sunday morning. Thaddous Babb Has Passed Array. Mr, Thaddeus Babb, a good citizen and well-to-do farmer of Babbtown, died at his home last Thursday. Ho hau-vb-on in ill health for several months. Too funeral and burial ser vices wore held from Green Pond Methodist Church, Friday afternoon. Mr. Babb was 72 years of age and is survived by his wifo and eight children, three sons and five daughters. He was a brother of Mr. Messer Babb of this city, and of Martin E. Babb, deceived, former Clerk of the Court for Laurens County. Will Celebrate tho Fonrth. The Laurens and Watts Mills will join In a big picnic at Holmes Park on tho glorious Fourth. A nig day Is promised by the management. There will be all kinds of games and races with substantial cash prizes. It will be a great Fourth of July celebration and the public is cordially invited. Summer School Opens. The County Summer School opened ut tho graded school building Monday afternoon with Prof. Frank Evans of Spartanburg In charge. Prof. Culbert son and Miss Tlllraan are assisting. Thirty-three teacher-pupils have enrolled and the indications are that tho attendance will be good and the school a line success. Miss Cadell of Alabama who will conduct the department In drawing, Is expected next week. Dr. Bailey Visits Laurens. Dr. T. M. Bailey, of Greenville, cor responding secretary of the State Bap tist Mission Board, was in Laurens from Saturday noon until Monday, Sunday morning he wont out to Bel* view,near tho county home, and preach, cd tho bermon at the dedication of this new church. He returned to the city Sunday afternoon and preached at tho First Baptist Church at the even ing service. Former Laurens Citizen Dies in Cali fornia. News has been received here of the death of Rev. Harrison Boyd at FreBno, Calllornla. Mr. Boyd went to Texas from this county about ton years ago. Later he removed to California, locat ing at Fresno. Second Church to be Dedicated. The Second Baptist Church will be dedicated Sunday, July 3rd. The ser vices will commence at 11 o'clock and the dedicatory sermon will be deliver ed by Dr. T, M. Bailey, of Greenville. Rev. M. C. Compton is the pastor of this church whioh was built two yoars ago. _ Masons Enjoy Picnic. A large number of Laurons Masons attended the annual picnic at Gray Court Saturday givon by Schroedor Lodge A. F. M, Congressman J. T. Johnson was present by invitation and delivered an address. The County Demooratio Executive Committee mot in tho court house Mon day to arrange for the' County Primary campaign. Tho meeting was called to or der by Chairman G. P.
