She managed to get out of her room on tho 6econd floor and bad reached the veranda, where sho was loca'od by her continued soroaras. She was r ntreated to jump, but sho was evidontly too weak to I escape. Meantime effort! wore made to | get ladders, but present*y she collapsed and her cries were beard no more. She was an aunt of Mis. J A. Copelacd of v this city, who went to Greenwocd Wednesday afternoon to be with Mrs. Moseley's family and other relatives In their great affliction. Mrs. Moseley was a widow and is survived by her daughter, Miss Leila Moseley, whore sided with her mother, and a son, Roscoe Moseley, of Anderson. On tho night of the lire the daughter was at Anderson, visiting her brother. It was a terrible ca'amity to befall any town, but the plucky little city will in a few months ccmo forih in all her strongth?groater and grander. PICNICKED AT YAKBOKOUUU'S. Laarens and Spartanbnrg Unitedly Bold Forth on the Enoree. Picnics, school picnic?, come thick and fast these days. In some Instances two or moro schools have united in these pleasant spring-time occasions, as did Sandy Springs, Miss Alice Little's fchool in this county and Cross An chor, Spartanburg county, Mr. Robert E. Leo Smith, teacher, at Yarborough's Mill on tho Enoree last Friday. lCloquont speeches, inspiring music, sumptuous dinners, beautiful women, gallant men, bright boys and girls all conspired to make the day a notable occasion. The speake-s were Solicitor T. S. Seaso of Spartanburg, candidate for rc-olectloo, Hon. R . A. Coopar of Laurens, candidate for So icitor and Superintendentof Education Elmore of Spartanburg. Laurens school inter ests were also represented by the County Superintendent, Mr. Brooks It was an admirable innovation in picnicking and those on the Laureos inside would no doubt bo delighted to| B duplicate the occasion regularly, con ^tinuously and indefinitely. Mountvili.e, May 31.?Last Friday the closing exercises of our school were held and the day was very pleas antly spent. Early In the morning the people from the surrounding com munities and candidates from all over the county bogan to gather, and by 10 J o'clock, tho hour for opening, tho house was packed. After the children had concluded their exorcises, Cipt. H. H. Watklns, of Anderson, was in troduced and delivered an able address. He was followed by Rev. J. B. Parrott, of Clinton, who also made a fine speech. At the conclusion of the school exer cises, the crowd was invited to partake of the bountiful picnlo dinner in the grove nearby. In the afternoon a ball game was played between Mountvllle and Cross Hill, resultlog In a victory for the home team. The patrons and trustees met and unanimously re-elected Prof. W. P. Culbertson and his accomplished daughter, Miss Blanche, for another term. The satisfaction these able and faithful teachers have been giving is proven by the vota they received yesterday. Jones, of Gray Court Owings Institute, was In tho city Fri day to meet his distinguished friend^ Rev. C. V, Baldy, I). D.,of Manchester, Va., who was returning homo from a visit to his old home in Georgia, and to his wife's family at Aikon. He is pastor of Bainbridgo Street Baptist Church, Manchester, and is one of the moat orominent young divines in tho Southern Baptist Convention. Deatli of a Lady. Mrs. Fannie Moore, wifejof Mr. John W. Moore, of Cole Point, diod last Fri day afternoon, after a brief illnoss. Her husband and Uve children survive her. The burial took place Saturday at Mount Pleasant. Death or a Child. Mr. and Mrs. John N. Hudgena' friends and relatives throughout the city and county extend deep sympathy to them in tho death of their 18-months old baby boy, Charles Pancoast Hud gens, who passed away WeJnesday night last. The remains were taken to Chestnut Ridge Thurjday afternoon for burial, Teachers Re-Elcctcd. At a meeting last week of tho Board of Trustees, the following teachers of tho Graded School corps were re elected: Misses Helen Goggans, Em mie Meng, Lillier Stevens, Llllie Mil ler, Ida Patrick and Mrs. C. One of the many dolightful school picnics throughout the county this season was that of the Pine Bin IT School, near Cross Hill, last Wednes day. A useful citizen, kind father and affec tionate husband has parsed away.
