NIGHT
By ,|i\me.f Montgomery
IOHT Is the tlmo for rost:
How sweet, whon lnbora close.
To gather round nn aching breust
The curtain of roposc,
i Stretch tho tired limbs, and lay the head
Down on our own delightful bed!
Night is tho tlmo for dreams:
The gay romance of life,
When truth that Is, and truth that
sccmu,
Blend In fantastic strife;
Ah) visions lofts beguiling far
Than Waking droamb by daylight are!
Night la tho time for toll:
To plough tho cIobsIc field,
Intent to find tho burled spoil
Its wealthy furrows yield;
Till nil la ours that sages taught,
That poets sang, ind heroes wrought.
Night la tho ttmo to weep:
To wet with unseen tears
Those graves of Memory, where Bleep
The Joys of other years;
Hope?, that wero Angela at their birth,
But died whon young, llko things of
earth.
Night Is the tlmo to watch:
O'er ocean's dark expanse.
To hall the Pleiades, or catch
Tho full moon's earliest glance,
That brings Into t)ic homesick mind
All wo havo loved and loft behind.
Night Is tho time for care:
Brooding on hours misspent,
To seo the Bccptcr of Despair
Come to our lonely tent;
Like Brutua, midst hla slumbering
host,
Summoned to dto by Ciesar'a ghoat.
Night Is tho time to think:
When, from tho eye, tho soul
Takes (light; and on the utmost brink
Of yonder starry polo
Discerns beyond the abyss of night
Tho dawn of uncreated light.
Night Is the time to pray:
Our Saviour oft withdraw
To desert mountains far away;
So will his follower do,?
Steal from the throng to haunts un
trod.
And commune tliere alono with God.
Night Is the time for Death: $
When all around Is peace,
Calmly to yield the weary breath,
From sin and suffering cease,
Think of heaven':; bliss, and glvo the
sign
To parting friend.;;?such death bo
mine.

MILLIONAIRE'S POOR STOMACH.
