Institute for Toaehers has issued tho
following:
Tho County Summor School for
teachors will open at 1) o'clock Monday
morning, July 28th. Last summor Lau
rens had one of the best schools in the
State and we hope to maintain that re
cord this year.
All teachers aro urged to nttond.
Tho daily intercourse with other teach
ers and the exchange of ideas will, in
itself, bo benoflting to them,?and a
full attendance will give inspiration to
the directors.
The course of study will consist of
English Grammar, Geograph} Alge
bra, Literature and Primary Methods.
Wo consider ourselves fortunate iu se
curing as assistant, Miss Elizabeth
McLean, one of the best primary teach
ers in the State. She hopes to have a
class of primary pupils during part of
tho time, in order to give the teachers
an opjiortunity in practice and obser
vation work.
It Is our desire to make all work as
profitable as possible for tho teachers.
We hope to organize a claBs in Con
structive Geography. In this will be
taught Map Drawing, the making of re
lief maps, globe and other home-made
apparatus.
Those desiring a boarding place will
please communicate with Supt. Chas.
P. Brooks. Everything will be done to
make the teachers have a pleasant as
well as a profitable month in Laurens.
We hope the county will be fully re
presented and that each teacher will
come with a determination to make
the most of the opportunities given.
Those desiring to attend should bo
present on the first day.

Fishing has been the order of the
day for some time but wiV stop for a
while now as we have had nloe rains
in this section and the farmers will be
rushing to get through work.
The roads in this section are in a
bad condition and some steps should
be taken to Improve them.
Mr. C W. Jone3 and sister, Miss
Jamie, visited Laurons Saturday.
Mr. Newt Golden of Riley's ylfifted
his uncle, Mr. Milton Golden, Sunday.
Mr. Johnnie Washington, who has
just entered the ministry, preached a
very interesting sermon at Mt. Olive
Sunday Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Henderson re
turned to Branchville Tuesday. Mr.
Henderson will enter the mercantile
business with Mr. A. P. H. Dukes.
Mr. Robert Ellis and wife of Due
West visited at Dr. J. R. Smith's
recently. Cognosco.

In answer to request of Advertiser
of 2nd have ascertained that Mr. Jos
eph T Joblln is ninety years old, was a
farmer by trade, camo from England
in 1840, has lived in Laurens county
about 22 years, recently fell and broke
his thigh from which he is now suffer
ing, has very nearly lost his sight,
health middling.
Miles H Ecott is 84 years old, has
lived in same house about 50 ytars, en
joys very good health.
Mrs Harriet Handback is 84 years
old, lived In county all her life.

Mrs. Lucy Putman, widow of Daniel
Putman was !)5 years old on the 25th of
March and has lived in the same house
69 years. She has a good memory and
is very lively and cheerful. Sho had
good health until she fell down and
displaced one hip several years ago and
since has been unable to walk. Her
father, Robertson Moore, raised ltl
children.
