One of the most unfortunato events
in ttio educational lines of the city is
the discontinuing of tho Untou Female
College. Professor Jones has been a
hard worker and had built tho collego
up and plaeed it on a paying founda
tion and among tho beet Institutions of
tho South, but bis over zeal In its wel
fare had undermined his health and
for tho last few months ho bas been
under the doctor's care, and now it's
only months of absolute rest that will
place him back .vhore he will be able
to enter tbo educational field again.
It was ono of tbo grandest institutions
of the city, one that all pointed to with
pride whon sneaking of the city's ad
vantages, and all the citizens with ono
accord foci tbo loss in its closing down,
and sympathize with Professor Jones
for bis lost health.?-The Kufaula (Ala.)

Death or N?chel Dial.
Lost Saturday afternoon about 1
o'clock, Mitchell, youngest son of Col.
and Mrs. N B. Dial, died at his parent's
homo In this vlly after a long lllnoss.
He was about 14 years of ago, and a
very bright and manly boy, beloved by
old aDd young alike for bis many good
and noble qualities. Ilia death was
quite a surprise as ho was thought to
be steadily Improving though his con
dition was known to be critical. Tho
sympathy of the entire community Is
extended to the borcavod family in this
the hour of thoir grief The funeral
and burial exerclsos wero conducted by
Rev. Watson Duncan Sunday after
noon at the city comotary, in the pres
ence of a large concourse of frionds and
acquaintances. Tho pall bearers wero
Messrs T. D. Lake, I). H. Counts, W.
Tt. lllohey, H. Y. Simpson, Dr. W. C.
Irby and C. H. Roper.
A Needed Institution.
Efforts are being mado by Messrs C.
E. Gray and W. W. Graham, two enter
prising young men of our city to perfect
an organ:zatlon, similar to a club, that
will afford not only a place for social
pleasure, but which will aid In the
mental, moral and physical develop
ment of its members. The fees will
bo low, yet tho advantages will be
many. A reading room well supplied
with periodicals, and a thoroughly
equipped gymnasium with hot and
cold shower baths, will be special fea
tures of the now organization. The
ha.-i tie. s men, will no doubt bo eager to
grasp this opportunity that will ona
lo them after tho days work is dono,
to take a littlo systematic moderate ex
ereiso followod by hot and cold shower
baths, that will pivo them hotter health
and keener business sense. Let all
encourage the movement.
Every Miller Had the Opportunity.
Nearly all mills made pure flour be
fore the anti-Adulteration League was
organized. The league was organized
when the adulteration of flour first
began, and was designed to slop it in its
incipiency. Every flour-miller in the
United States was invited to join the
League, but the fact that he bad to make
oath that he nevor bad and never would
adulterate bis Hour, and in addition
had to put up a forfeit of $1,000 to
strengthen his oa'h, caused a large
number to hesitate, and finally to de
cline, ?ransford Mills, manufacturer
of the "Clifton," was among tho lirst
to join, because it never had and never
expected to adulterate Its Hour. Is not
such a stand worth considering whon
you buy Hour with which to feed your
children, especially when a poisonous
mineral is being used to adulterate it?

Deafness Cannot Be Cured
By local application as they cannot

deafneso, and that is by constitutional
remedies. Deafness is caused by an
inflamed condition of the mucous lin

this tube Is inflamed you have a rumb

when it is entirely closed, Deafness is
the result, and unless the inflammation
